no, sorry if I gave that impression. I was just saying that in an age when the KKK were prevalent all the way up to white house, there would be little problem in writing a racially prejudiced article, it would in fact be the norm for that age.

Sports writers in America wrote a lot of great things about Joe Louis from 1935 onwards. They welcomed his arrival on the scene.
I understand your point but I don't think many people in those racially prejudiced times allowed that to get in the way of recognizing the abilities of a bloody good fighter !
Sport is sport. A fight is a fight.

In the same way I'm sure Muhammad Ali was upheld as a great fighter even in Apartheid South Africa.

I'd also like to point out that this author, Gene Kessler, had already written a small book about Joe Louis in 1936 (perhaps the first published book about Louis ?).

    [ame]http://www.amazon.com/Joe-Louis-brown-bomber-little/dp/B00088Z1BC[/ame]

Authors like him were telling us how great Joe Louis was before Louis had even been given a shot at the title.

The fact that he was probably white, and has Dempsey eventually winning a complete fantasy fight against Louis (who hadn't even made more than 1 defence of the title yet), is enough for postors like Pachilles to come here and make some ridiculous accusations of bias and racism.
If Kessler was BLACK he'd probably be accuse of being an 'Uncle Tom'. :-(

It's sad that too many people in 2012 cannot actually consider that people in 1937 might have actually had some intelligence and integrity and that a variety of opinions and prejudices existed among individuals of the times.

It's perhaps the height of prejudice to dismiss someone's opinions of motive simply because of their ethnicity of the times they lived in.

Sonny Liston was consider unbeatable by many (white) American writers while he was champion. Invincible.

Is the rule of classic: in a fantasy fight, always pick the older fighter.

Plus Louis wasn't Joe Louis yet.

None to me , but he does mention their respective colours quite a bit as if that was in some way relevant, probably just going for the contrast.

Legend, what else do you expect from a race-baiter ? Either he is a troll or
despises "whitey", this sicko would be banned for saying "blackie" in a derogatory manner...This weirdo [and he is] has no freakin idea how beloved Joe Louis was in America during Louis's reign...No idea...Why is this P allowed to spew hatred on one race whilst other posters with something valid to say were banned and sent to Siberia ? If I by bringing up this injustice is sent a packin also by defending truth and decency, well so be it...Cheers LX...:good

All reporters - white, black, 'racists' and 'non-racists' and otherwise - in those days would have mentioned it.

These days we still often/always mention nationality (and even often ethnicity/heritage).
We could argue that none of it is relevant ... and maybe a hundred years from now some know-alls on the internet will say we were all bigots.
(that's no snipe at you, BTW.)

Maybe no one takes Pachilles' race-agenda seriously.

It certainly is an incessant effort from him though, which suggests he has an unhealthy obssession.

They would have mentioned it but, would they have reiterated it 12 times as the writer did in describing the" Fight"?:think

True L, but by repeating a lie often enough without a proper rebuttal , a LIE becomes the truth...
P.S. LX ,what would happen if this P would constantly use the word "BLACKIE" to demean a race on ESB ? Would there not be HELL on ESB ?
I cannot understand this double standard at all...I hate bigotry wherever it's directed at, but to be passive and not reject the poster who spouts this garbage, shows me maybe I'm on the wrong forum...

Eugene Kessler was white, he ghost wrote a series of articles which Joe Louis then affixed his name to ,they appeared in several US papers.
