what did these guys do to get shots at the title and why? especially abe simon,(is there any other footage of simon other than the louis fight) and then the others?
The funny thing is that you can find this information pretty much anywhere. Even on this swiss cheese whole site: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Joe_Louis#.22Bum_of_the_Month_Club.22 Goddamn i wish we had footage of Louis KO1 John Henry Lewis
well the ranking back then must have been pretty sorry especially if joe cut through them the way he did or was he just truly the greatest for that era?
Tyson said something pretty solid about the bum of the month club here, I think. "If any of the fighters today were around when Louis was fighting, even the good fighters in the 60s the joe fraziers the muhammad alis, if they were around they'd be considered bums too and we know no one considers them bums...." Perceptions of era are for the most part subjective. The facts indicate that Louis was slaying the best of his division at a staggering pace, and despite that people still give him **** for hitting the deck, having tough fights etc... He was just that good. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=g1BwfSOuw_c&feature=related[/ame] edit: I LOVE YOU ITRYMARITI
Yep. I don't think Tyson is calling them bums either, the way he's suggesting it simply is that Louis at the time was damn good, and he was just beating up good fighters at a quick pace and getting ridiculed for it. And i guess, that Louis at the time would have beaten both guys. "Joe Louis, from watching him and his disposition, the way he thought... Hard to see anyone beating him, even Ali, so smart, brilliant."
Watch the series, he has a lot of good things to say (he's a real boxing film nerd). It might change your opinion of Tyson. Yes, even good things about Ali, because I know how sensitive you are :good
Yeah, agreed! The Tyson of these 3 videos he brought out in the late80s is a completely different guy to the one that most know. He was articulate, knowledgable, pleasent, and seemed a real nice kid
