Notice that at 9:00 (after Dempsey and Louis have switched to different sides of the ring) Dempsey looks about as tall as Louis.

Either the ring or the camera is a bit slanted, if not both. (Notice the incline, from left to right, of the ring ropes). Louis is a bit taller than Dempsey, but not to the extent he appears to be at the start of the video.

FH, I returned an answer to your private post a couple of hours ago, but evidently you NEVER received my reply...Just had carpal tunnel surgery on my hand so it is painful to type, but I took an advil to dull the pain...
Thank you again S for your kind thoughts...Though i am an American I
loved the England of Churchill, by far the greatest politician since Lincoln...
Someone said of Winston Churchill, "he mobilized the English language and sent it into battle "...A great man from the era of my chidhood...
Yes I saw the recent clip of my two favorite heavyweights, Jack Dempsey and Joe Louis from 1951...They both had enormous respect for each other's ability's for sure...My favorite Fantasy match would be between Dempsey and Louis both in their respective primes....My other favorite heavyweight was Joe Frazier, whom I first saw as amateur against Buster Mathis in the 1964 Olympic trials...Mathis won a close decision that afternoon...
Frazier had guts galore and was always respectful of his opponents...
Yes i have been aggravated by some posters on ESB who delight in trying to be a gadfly and have an agenda against Jack Dempsey, not only as a fighter, but as a man....You would think that Dempsey was the incarnation of "Jack the Ripper" who killed many people in the Whitechapel area in
London years before.....So sickly is some posters hatred of a man dead lo these many years...
So S, thanks for your private message to which I returned my post without success...Thank you...

No run of the mill moron could come up with those quips. It takes an exceptional moron!

Sorry guys, I love Dempsey the legend and myth but a slacker, sex trafficer and color line holder he was. You can deny it all you want. It's all on the record.

And for the record, I love Sullivan and Tyson, also. Supremely flawed individuals. Funny, tho, that all three seemed to come to their senses later on in life.

Nice video. They had class, you don't, maybe you need to watch it again and try to learn. Better yet, don't waste your time, you sound hopeless.

Almost every pre-1970 video of ex-champs has them showing respect like that to each other. Ali changed it for the worse. I wonder if that was filmed before Louis last bout?

you can deny reality all you want. But when the guy who dempsey supposedly ducked and drew the colour line for so many years himself did not blame dempsey, how can you decide that this was definately true?

Dempsey was formally cleared of those charges in a US court.

    It's all on the record.

    I don't deny any of Dempsey's flaws.
But I do have a problem with you inventing new ones for him, based on **** 'logic'. (such as : he developed some primitive personal 'phobia of blacks' )

Seamus, my boy, think before you post anything, first he fought a host of black fighters in his wander years. Maybe you should educate yourself as to the facts. A few of books on Dempsey, mention the name of the opponent and what happened.
second, Dempsey was half starved and sleeping in park benches and eating free sandwiches in bars. Meanwhile Johnson, was sleeping in his own bed eating right and comfortable. How come all you Dempsey haters, realize that Dempsey, was at a severe disadvantage. Dempsey was basically home-less, and eating baloney sandwich, you try fighting a tough guy like Johnson. Give Dempsey his props, he took a brutal beating with broken ribs going the full route and he never ever used that as an excuse.

And what do you think Dempsey weighed? Probably about the same. When he won the title he weighed 180, according to Dempsey himself. Dempsey was a good man, thats why people still admire him. I can tell you from personal experience of standing outside his resturant as a kid and looking in the window to see if he was there. He always sat by the window he would wave you in and sign a postcard with the painting of the Willard fight.
