Louis Donates Proceeds of Sparring Sessions For Carnera To Langford.

As Joe Louis has been getting some,[to my mind unfounded]vitriol from a certain poster I though I would mention that he donated the proceeds for his sparring sessions leading up to the Carnera fight to Sam Langford.
Around that time Langford also had an operation on his right eye for a detached retina it was a success and restored the sight in that eye.At the Louis v Carnera fight Langford had a ringside seat paid for by the Louis camp it was the first boxing match he had seen for five years.
A year later a baseball double header was arranged at the Polo Grounds it was comprised of 4 teams from the Negro National League, a share of the proceeds went to a benefit for Sam.Jack Dempsey attended and Jesse Owens threw out the ball.
When writer Al Laney later interviewed Langford, Sam had 20 cents in his pocket.Laney filed his story and contacted over 700 individuals advising them of Sam's straightened circumstances.Dempsey,Louis,Beau Jack,Fritzie Zivic,Mike Jacobs all chipped in and over $10,000 was raised.
