Instead of Jack Dempsey being knocked out of the ring onto the press's typewriters, substitute Joe Louis.
Before any Louis fans say he wouldn't have been in that position, go watch the Buddy Baer fight.
My question is, what would have transpired had Louis scrambled back into the ring as Dempsey did?
How different would the rest of the fight have been from the actual shoot out that Jack and Firpo engaged in?
One other thing which we need to get out of the way, the referee is the same Johnny Gallagher who showed leniency towards Dempsey when he stood over his fallen opponent, so we assume his mind-set would be identical in the event of any knockdowns.

Does Joe regroup , box cautiously behind his jab, or is he so befuddled that he becomes easy meat for the Argentinian clouter?
Dempsey's instinct when hurt was like that of a disturbed rattlesnake ,strike back!
    How would Joe react?

Louis said he never recovered completely from Schmeling's first flush right hand in their initial fight ,Firpo was nowhere near as methodical and measured as Max but he probably could hit just as hard, would he close the show?

    Thoughts?

    Basically the same thing.
Joe Louis gets back in the ring and strikes back with deadly force, defeating Firpo in the 2nd round probably.

This is true, his cool calculating boxing, so reminiscent of Willie Pep, caused him to be nick- named ,

You can’t really say what would happen, but I would see Louis as one of the more likely candidates to turn the situation round.

He had good recuperative powers, and could turn the threshing machine on very quickly, if a fight was not going to his liking.

Remember, Luis Firpo was a primary influence on Hugo Corro, except Hugo had more flair for entertainment's sake. When interviewed about Firpo's influence on his style, Corro is known to have said,..."Si, Firpo influenced my style"...

On film Firpo looks like a combination of Svenska Ottke and Jimmy Young. Slick and Argentine.

Hopkins just got KO'd through the ropes.
He hit his head first on the ground, and twisted his ankle, preventing him from climbing back in.

Falling out of the ring is no joke.

    I doubt Louis survives

Dempsey had super punch recovery powers

Joe was ko'ed by smchelling who was not noted as a puncher
