Resumes, I think some could make an argument that Foreman, Lewis, Holmes, Liston, and Marciano are all equal to or above Louis. Ali, no one touches his resume.
Very tough ... the A beats B but not C game ... I think Ali was the best. Louis was devastating but I can see a few like Jack Johnson taking him out of his game and beating him. However I see Louis giving Ali a much tougher fight than Johnson ... again, all about styles ... The best Joe Louis , especially in a rematch, may have chased Ali all over the ring like Tito to Oscar ...
I thought on points/rounds Oscar deserved the decision but it's tough to get the W in a fight where you clearly run from your opponent for the final third of the bout. In addition, Oscar later admitted he was tired so that does not score many points with me as well ...
I'm sure this has been discussed on this forum alotta times, but Louis in his prime versus Cassius Clay, can you imagine? I do agree with he Grant about johnson, formidable is a good word, but Louis with those sharp shots v. Clay with that movement, what a fight!
But if you bank enough rounds in the first 8 to win a 12 round fight it doesn't matter regardless. The judges aren't to go back and swap a few scores because Joe Blow run the last 4 rounds and lost them 10-9. It also doesn't matter who admits later they were tired or worn out or nearly ready to go etc. Agreed it makes for poor viewing and certainly takes gloss off a win, but in the big picture of winning and losing it doesn't count.
Last 3 rounds john. Oscar won the 9th round, he didnt began his running till the 10th. by that point, oscar was already ahead 8 rounds 1 and it didnt matter what happened from that point.
