What's up guys, it's Marciano fanboy #284. Alright in all seriousness I found an interview where Marciano himself confirms a statement that has been highly disputed amongst boxing fans.

Quote: "Louis told me I punched harder than any man he had ever fought"

I've heard that he said the same thing in his autobiography "My Life", by Joe Louis, but I've yet to read the book (currently reading "Ali" by Jonathan Eig).

Before anyone tried to discredit this, Walcott said that Marciano hit harder than Louis, so there'd be no bias there (will provide link if needed, though this should be general knowledge). And Schmeling said that Louis was the hardest puncher he ever saw. Dempsey also said that Marciano looked like he hit harder than Louis and himself

Not surprising since he knocked him unconscious. He also just looks like the hardest puncher out of the usual suspects that might make the grade here.

I wouldn't be surprised. Marciano hit freaking hard. He sacrificd a lot of things so that he could really wing them in.

To question Rocky's power is silly. He was a monster puncher pound for pound .. I don't believe he hit harder than a prime Louis but they are in the same category for sure.

I'm well thanks J. T.just got back from Thailand tonight.
On the subject, Joe Louis stated Al Delaney hit him the hardest he was ever hit.

Joe Louis always said it was Alex Borchuck (aka Al Delaney)who had hit him the hardest
(breaking one of his back teeth) and people never know how close he came to losing that fight

Ok but the problem with that quote is that we don't know

    1. The validity of it
    2. The time of it
    3. The source of it

Wheras mine is literally from the horse's mouth

I can see it. Marciano was a freak of nature, like Ali was with speed. Marciano, at 185ish pounds likely hit harder than many 200+ pound heavies. Just like a prime Ali was faster than many fast welterweight and middle weights.

Usually, bigger men hit harder and smaller men are faster, but there are exceptions.

Nowhere in Louis' autobiography does he say Marciano hit him the hardest.
What he said was he hit harder than Schmeling,he also said the following.
"I didn't figure on any problems with Marciano,he was srong sure but he fought like a street-brawler. I figured I could outbox him any time and I needed the money too much to turn it down".
Yeah I was right! He was a street brawler. He couldn't touch me when it came to boxing.Marciano was strong though.I figured with a little more training he could do it all.But right then in the ring I was busting him up with my jabs."
Everything was fine until the seventh round .My age gave me away; all of a sudden my legs gave out.
They had to lift me of my stool for the eight round Marciano knocked me down once with a left hook.I managed to get up after taking an eight count. Then he caught me with another left that put me up against the ropes and followed with a looping right hand. But I just couldn't get out of the way.It hit me on the neck and I fell through the ropes."
"The better fighter won but I wasn't really hurt until the knockout. He was a good puncher and very strong. He hit harder than Max Schmeling".

"But Borchuk[Delaney,] was tough. At the end of the third round, I was very discouraged.he hit me so hard,he chipped one of my back teeth.I beat him but I was very lucky to have won the fight."
    Joe Louis My Life.
The horses mouth would be in this case Joe Louis not Marciano.
Please show a confirmed quote by Louis in which he states Marciano hit him the hardest.
