Looking back at this round it seems Louis was only stopped because he was tired, he didn`t get caught with many hard shots, the hook that put him down wasn`t concussive and when he ws put down a second time he was tired out, a young Louis wouldn`t have gassed like this, so it may be a myth that swarmers would always cause Louis problems, could a young Louis have taken Marciano`s power better?

I strongly disagree that Marciano didn't land anything hard on him, Louis took a beating.

That said, I agree that prime Louis would likely beat Marciano and I disagree that Louis struggled with pressure. He had one fight when he had troubles adjusting to Godoy's awkward style (still won) and he destroyed him in rematch. What other swarmer troubled Louis? Please, don't mention Galento...

Louis was 37 - 10 years older than Marciano and Louis didn't age particularly well. I think it's safe to say that a younger Louis would have had more stamina and punch resistance. I would favor a prime Louis over prime Marciano.

Wut? He's out cold dude. A younger sharper Louis can pull the trigger and land far more big punches on Marciano. Who wins, who know?

The swarming Godoy gave Louis a close fight in the first fight. In the rematch his trainer got him to adapt by throwing uppercuts and he knocked him out.

Louis said it was the hook that did it.Marciano held his left fist up in the dressing room and said," this was the one".
Louis said ."Everything was fine until the seventh round.
"My age gave me away;all of a sudden like,my legs gave out. They had to lift me off the stool for the bell in the eighth.Marciano knocked me down once with a left hook
.I managed to get up after taking an eight count. Then he caught me with another left that put me up against the ropes ,and followed with a looping right hand. But I just couldn't get out of the way.It hit me on the neck and I fell through the ropes. There I was with my head against the ring apron and just my legs still inside the ring. That's the last time I got hit in the ring.Made up my mind it would be.
I'm glad I wasn't fully conscious when Referee Ruby Goldstein stopped the fight. There was no doubt Marciano had beaten the **** out of me.The better fighter won,but I wasn't really hurt until the knockout. He was a good puncher and very strong. He hit harder than Max Schmeling" Marciano came into the dressing room sobbing like a baby and saying," Joe I'm sorry," " Joe Louis My Life"

Me too.Louis no longer had his big right hand, he was getting by with his jab,not enough against Rocky.

A young Louis would have forced the fight and tried to come in on Rocky and Rocky might have had more chances to nail him earlier.

Louis said he could not have beaten Maricano because ehe didn't like to be crowded. What other swarmer bothered Louis? Aurto Godoy for certain i the first fight and its on film. Louis looked lost vs Godoy, who bulled him around the ring and had issues landing.

Galento does deserve mention, as he was a forward moving type who floored Louis.

Sure, most old past prime boxers can't deal with pressure well. It's understandable.
Godoy was very awkward to fight against and he had irom chin. Louis still won this fight cleanly based on what I've seen. He also dominated him in rematch without any problems.

He floored Louis for a brief moment between eating bombs and being hopeless. If that's your example of Louis struggling with swarmers, then sorry but I don't see it.

How about Uzcudun, Levinsky and other swarmers he faced?

Louis didn't fight many swarmers though so how he looked vs Marciano, Godoy, and Galento counts. While I agree Louis didn't struggle with Galento, he was floored and that itself shows suspect defense and balance.

Uzcudun was the the end of his rope when he meet Louis. He was 36, and lost to Carrera, and Scheming. Louis was his last fight. This one is filmed by the way, but not easy to find.

I'm not sure if Louis beat Godoy in the first fight, the footage doesn't show that, and the judging in the fight was not consistent.
• The only rounds in which the three official scorers agreed were the third, eighth (both to Godoy) and the fourteenth (Louis).
• Art Donovan was Louis ref, I find his cards very suspect. For example Donovan only gave Tommy Farr one round! He's was a house ref, plane and simple. Joe Walcott's camp insisted that Donavan was barred from being the third man in the ring when they fought.
• Many in the crowd booed the decision. This shows the scoring could be off, and the wrong person might have won.
Levinsky lost often and didn't last a round vs. Louis. I'm not sure if he was a swarmer and even if he was didn't last long enough to test Louis with the style. You can see the fight here:

https://boxrec.com/media/index.php/Joe_Louis_vs._King_Levinsky

Louis inches his way forward with zero head movement, and a low guard. Levinsky looks awful and can't take a punch.

So outside of one fluke fight with Godoy (that Louis avenged in brutal way) that Louis still won, you have no arguments. Sorry but that's not enough to make me change my mind.

Its a possible scenario, and Goldman used it as a rebuttal when it was said to him that Louis was only a shadow of himself.

The idea that Louis couldn't handle pressure fighters is lazy BS,Brown, Ettore ,Mauriello,B Baer, all came for him and ended up on the floor

Prime Louis had fast hands and was accurate like a sniper he would knock marciano the **** out , the "iron chin" of marciano is a ridiculous myth,
an ancient lhw who was not a top puncher h2h at hw did put his ass in the floor. Louis would keep him down. Marciano had to work 8 rounds to stop a finished boxer
