So it's Louis takin place of Ali challenging liston. This is the Braddock version of Joe in there. How does the young version of the brown bomber do in this? He'll be bringing a different style as opposed to ali s in this. Does liston stand more of a chance in this match up? No mind game s or crazy weigh ins here. Just Louis s calm exterior verses the intimidating glare of sonny. Two big punchers in here, how's it end?
A ko in this one mcvey for definite. I see early rounds liston with the jab doing the business. Then Joe moving in and catching sonny. A classic Louis ko in 6 I predict
That's the difference in this one Stevie. The hand speed, plus the more accurate punches coming from Joe. Not a walk in the park for Louis but he gets the job done with deadly cold precision.
Louis...due to Liston's 3-year quasi-inactivity. This is not the Liston of the Cleveland Williams fights.
A fighter only looks as good as an opponent lets him look. I don't think Sonny, from what we saw of him, was any worse in in Las Vegas in his previous fight than he was in Miami. Ali was just a step up for Liston and so would Joe Louis be.
There is much that we don't know about Sonny. I disregard the Ali fights because I believe that they were fixed. We don't even know how old Sonny was. He may well have been past his prime in Miami. We know plenty about Joe. Louis by ko, with possibly Joe surviving a knockdown or two. Still, Sonny remains a mystery. How good was he in his prime? When was his prime? Hmmm....
His true age I think will be a mystery forever. I definitely don't think he looked in his early 30s when he lost to ali! His prime probably came around ten years before he challenged Patterson. Who knows how good a young liston would have been against the elite.
The Miami promoter of the Clay vs Liston fight was a "wrestling" promoter too. One of the magazines around then (Life?), pre-fight quoted the guy predicting Clay to win in the mid-rounds.
Liston did not prepare himself well for the first Ali fight, and there is evidence of a pre-existing injury. If you had doubts about calling it for Louis, then these factors should be enough to tip you that way.
Of course. What I meant was that if you were wavering, then Liston's condition should tip you towards Louis.
