Well Espn classic is not showing the fight complete, it runs 30 mins long(Time frame) So in 30 mins, they will fit 5 rounds and a bunch of commericals. I have both fights, runs 30 and 20 mins each. Fight I, has all 15 rounds in highlight form about. Far from complete, but you get a general feel of how the fight flow. I think Godey relly pile it on late in the fight. Perhaps Louis edge it. Never did a round by round of there first fight. But it is a pretty fun fight to watch.
I am talking about the first fight. I saw it a while back and to be honest Godoy won more rounds. Let's see if this ESPN classic version shows all of the roudns.
I am talking about the first fight. Anyone who thought godoy won the first fight needs there eyes checked.
Louis did not win a clear decsion. He was out worked, dumbfoudned, and bulled around the ring. I thought Godoy won more rounds, and did enough to win a close decsion.
I dont think so................ This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
The good news is this. I have my TiVo set to record all boxing on 600+ channels. The bad news is, I only have 80 hours of recording space, and Louis vs Godoy I was already bumped in favor of Floyd Patterson's greatest hits. Sorry. I won't be able to do a round by round here, though I did see each roudn and score it a while back, and Godoy was the better in most of the rounds.
I have the full 2nd fight on tape. It takes Louis a while to adjust, but yes, he does get his uppercut going. In the first fight, Louis might throw 2 uppercuts the entire fight. Its mostly Godoy out working Louis, landing more punches to the head or body, bulling him to the ropes, and making him miss.
The aspect which should be looked at in the first Louis/Godoy fight is ring generalship. Godoy landed his shots, but he also smothered his own work. He bothered Louis but was not dictating things or being particularly effective with his punches. The times when he gave himself some space and landed decent long shots was few and far between. In amongst the few good shots and 'pitter-pat' wrestling style of fighting by Godoy, Louis dealt out a more admirable strain of mid-range hooks on the counter and inside for the educated boxing eye. The sour reaction from Godoy's corner after the decision had been rendered was not called for. You don't deserve a fight on effort, Louis landed the better shots and came away, rightfully, with the victory.
I wish this fight could be shown here. While Louis might have landed the best 3 or 4 shots in the fight, he did not win more rounds or land many good shots at all. Boxing is scored on a round by round basis in this fight. No way Louis loses a close fight in MSG. He was too connected.
I would have issues with Godoy taking the decision today using the tactics he used. Back then when making the fight was heavily scored for there was just no way he was going to get the nod.
