Louis was too small to beat Wlad, yet he beat bigger men...

Corrie Sanders was the white version of Earnie Shavers. He had nothing, but that big left hand. Avoid it or survive it and you had him. Wlad couldn't do either...

Nope sorry But Shavers was one of the hardest punchers ever, Sanders is nothing compared to him, but Wlad still got KTFO by an old, out of shape fighter.

He wasn't a defensive cutie, so ****ing what? He was still excellent at countering and parrying leads, in an exchange of lefts he rarely came up short He was very good at ducking and blocking punches with his shoulders ala Arguello who has a very similar style.

Countering a Baer left hook with a jab to the body.

For his style Louis had a pretty superb defense. No boxer-punchers were as fundamentally sound.

So you believe that the Wlad that fought Sanders is just as good as the Wlad today?:lol::lol::lol:

Fact is, Wlad has been improving in every fight. Each fight he gets more and more comfortable with what Steward is teaching.
And you can't deny that nutrition is a huge role - his is top notch thanks to David Williams.

Society as a whole has become bigger over time. From 1960-2003 the average American's average height and weight grew over 1 inch and 25 lbs. That is the data I can find so based on the year by year ratio Joe Louis would be 2 inches taller and about 40 lbs heavier if he were born the same year as Wladimir.

So when you compare Wladimir and Louis's size to the average American male, they are both equally bigger than the average male for their respected era.

You just have to adjust for the time period, the steroids in milk, the steroids in cow meat, pig meat, etc. You can't penalize a fighter because they fought during a generation that was smaller across the board because if that same fighter were born in this generation, they would be bigger. On the flip side if Wladimir was born in Louis's era he would have been 2 inches shorter and 40lbs lighter.

See how it works? It's pretty simple actually. This isn't fight night round 4, we are talking about reality here which means you include all factors including the inflation of the human male's size.

People really don't understand how to compare athletes cross-era.

Oh and if you want to know how I obtained this information:
Average adult Americans are about one inch taller, but nearly a whopping 25 pounds heavier than they were in 1960, according to a new report from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC).

The report, Mean Body Weight, Height, and Body Mass Index (BMI) 1960-2002: United States, shows that the average height of a man increased from just over 5'8" in 1960 to 5'9½" in 2002. Meanwhile, the average weight for men rose dramatically from 166.3 pounds in 1960 to 191 pounds in 2002.

(I hope these young cats take the time to understand this. I know it may be hard for some of them to compute such a complex revelation, but this is real important. When you compare fighters from different eras you have to grade on a curve for size)

come on man, Byrd did not try to use defense agaisnt Wlad , his gameplan was to " walk wlad down" those were basically his words. and he did just that. he walked into everything wlad had to offer.

I recall Byrd getting heavily criticized for too much defense . Byrd let that get to his head and he faught wlad completely oppisite of his natural style.

I am not a Byrd fan but this should be odvious to fans of the sport.

Wlad hasn't fought a puncher with good hand speed since, and he has struggled with other punchers, despite them being VERY limited at everything else, is he a horrible fighter ? No, but he sure as hell wouldn't beat a puncher like Louis, who has the skill, speed, and superior inside fighting ability to take him apart.

Harder than Sanders no doubt, but Wlad never fought Lewis, so what are you talkin about with this?

But Louis knocked out BIGGER guys than Wlad, and with all Wlad's size, it didn't give him a chin. Again, he's been knocked down 11 times by BUMS.

So, while I understand what you're saying, Wlad still matches up poorly with Louis. Would he beat most other heavyweights throughout time, no doubt. But he woudlnt' beat Louis.

Put the same Sanders that beat Wlad several years ago with Wlad today, same outcome. Wlad had a hard time with tenative, non puncher, bad stance, Tony Thompson who managed to last 11 rounds and cut Wlad up.

Sanders would beat him down again.

Or was that Wlad that fought Thompson not the same Wlad of today?
