I didn't like seeing the British fans who got to see the fight live. None of them were boxing fans, they were just next because a boy from their town was involved in a high profile event. I went from wanting Hatton to win to becoming really impressed by Mayweather. Those British fans just went home thinking the UK lost.

Frank Bruno was a lot more popular here than Hatton.

Frank Bruno should not be mentiond in the same breath as Ricky Hatton , he should be mentioned in the same words as Joe Bugner

Nah - Bruno had (and still has) a HUGE fanbase in the UK. Virtually every fight I've seen where Bruno has been in attendance, fans have chanted his name until he's taken a curtain call.

Hatton still has a way to go before he matches the status of Big Frank in British culture - even more so after the problems that Frank has had over recent years.

Its true, you could ask my granny who Frank Bruno is and her face would light up, ask her who Hatton is and she would be clueless. Bruno is an icon over here, just for the way he was.

It was always more bout his persona than his ability. Crazy, but true.

The order of popularity is Bruno > Hatton > Bugner. Quite frankly, putting Bugner and Bruno together in the same bracket is an insult. The moment that he rocked Tyson back onto his heels, a whole country rose to it's feet. Don't forget, Bruno still has one of the greatest KO/win ratios in Heavyweight boxing - 95% KO rate.

Not in black circles he aint..I considered him to have been a jigaboo back then (because he played to negative stereotypes of the black man...) and admitted to such in an interview after he won the title off of Oliver McCall:deal

Why do you presume I was ever a Hatton fan. This is the americn problem. Im Scottish, & do not support every fighter south of the border in England produce. At 140 pounds, I'm a Junior Witter fan myself.

btw, 'british' fans are not fickle like a minority of americans, they will still worship 'wicky'.
