Im not saying he was the biggest boxer, im saying the avergage shop owner down the road has probably heard of Bruno because he was a media personality as well as a boxer. Lewis, Joe C, etc etc never really have been, they just concentrated on the boxing, hence why non boxing fans have heard of Bruno.

 

At least two thirds of those travelling fans will dissapear in his next fight seeing as you can only go down from fighting the p4p #1:good..who cares anymore (i.e. media)

 

I'm not sure about the biggest boxer, but certainly one of the largest personalities to come out of the ring. His unintended partnership with 'Arry Carpenter is stuff of legend, and was used in a HP Sauce marketing campaign. His laugh is a joy to behold too.

His mental problems only went to increase his popularity - becoming untouchable by the British media in the process (one of the hardest tasks in modern journalism).

Have to remember that he fought at a time when the Heavyweight division was going through a purple patch, and Tyson really was on his game.

 

As for who gets the most fans between PBF and Hatton at their next fights, that's not really measurable/comparable. Hatton fans are Hatton fans, PBF fans are PBF fans.

I _do_ think that alot of UK fans have become aware of PBF's abilities now, and we're not the kind of people to hold a grudge for long. You only have to look back at people like Hagler and the amount of respect he has over here in the UK, despite the fact he smacked Minter up the ear good and proper.

Whilst some may have you believe they dislike PBF for beating Hatton, others (like myself) have alot of respect for him now and would have no problem in watching/supporting someone like PBF in fights to come. PBF has an opportunity to work the UK media for his gain right now, it's just a case of him showing us a little more of who the real PBF is.

The worst thing was the idiot fans at the MGM smiling and doing all kinds of crazy waving to the camera.... totally forgetting that Hatton is getting his ass kicked in the ringatsch
