Hear me out even if you can't stand David Haye at the moment... William Hill have Haye at 50/1 to be the BBC Sports Personality of the Year. He will be on everyone's minds come voting time. We know he is very good on telly shows, in interviews and was the only contender who actually had personality at last year's awards ceremony. The market is lacking serious contenders (Tony McCoy is fav after winning National for first time) Here is full market at William Hill: http://sports.williamhill.com/bet/en-gb/betting/g/185025/Outright.html Incidentally he is 66s with Ladbrokes. The interesting thing with this betting market is that it is open to influence (all legal of course). There was a big gamble on Giggs at similar odds, so everyone who backed it voted for him and with the boxing community behind him and a few articles here and there you never know. A £10 bet gives back £510 and we can all forget our issues with him for a slice of that eh?
Where to start, honestly after 3 years on ESB this is the worst Brit forum thread. Haye won't even be in the final 12 which is nominated by journolists and rightfully so the guy has done an wont do **** all this year Don't you work for William Hill???
I'm sure they will find a way to give it to another manchester United squad player. Paul Scholes surely has to be the favourite this year, especially with the bumming Sky and the BBC give him.
David Haye may well score highly in the personality stakes, but I don't think the "sports" aspect of his achievements would make him a serious contender. Calling out the Klitchkos but then fighting Audley Harrison is not what is required to win such a highly acclaimed award.........
With you there, Slip. It's merely a popularity contest. If any British boxer should get a shout based on achievements in this calendar year, it should be the one most deserving. So far that is Ricky Burns, IMHO.
If he KOs Harrison in highlight reel fashion it won't matter that he's beating second rate competition, millions of Brits will have watched it and most of them know **** all about boxing anyway. Definately worth a punt, the votes are cast after his fight in November right?
