Bongani is someone I would consider to be a friend (added him on facebook a few years back; have enjoyed correspondance since) but his dedication is something I have questioned him about before. He's the current unified two-weight (welter and Junior Middle) WBF Champion D) but has apparently got his hunger back; the fearsome African puncher is reportedly (source: The Scene) going back down in weight to fight renowned hardman N'Dou. Now, I think Bongani will need to seriously buck his ideas up to survive here. N'Dou is no puncher, but will have enough nuance to beat Mwelase if he hasn't trained 110%. It's an interesting fight, and if Bongani stops N'Dou it will make a statement; he's been nothing but durable his whole career. Mwelase looks dreadful in the only footage of him available on youtube (his last fight, at 154) but I've been assured that he looked very good in beating Lucky Lewale as a mere novice over 12 rounds at Welter a few years back. Was in Melbourne with him, he is a nice lad, very confident and definitely a big talent. Would be a shame if he didnt reach his potential due to lack of commitment
I'm hoping to get some conformation from the horses mouth on this. I'll be made up if it's on, just hope Bongani puts the work in, he's a nice guy and from the reports I've read, a massive puncher and freakishy proportioned welterweight.
Going by boxrec he has hit the canvas a few times at welter, is that down to cutting to make weight? If so surely he'd be better at 154?
Due to him not being well conditioned from what I can gather. Lewale was a big step up for a nine fight novice: from what he told me, he was knackered at the end of his first 12 rounder and was hurt late.
See if you can get him to send you some more footage, just watched the video and he does look shocking (I'm assuming he's the black guy) so not sure how he won a decision fighting like that! By the way, his title at 154 is the wb federation and the 147 is wb foundation

He can't even get any footage of himself Hes been trying to get the Lewale fight for a while, someone holding it from him by the spud of it Hes quite a character, I had a massie row with him and all his African friends about Floyd once. But he's a gent, I hope he turns it round.
