Check it out. Note that this video does not include all the punches.

How can THIS happen in professional boxing in 2014. I don't deny that it was bad performance by Loma. But it was only his second fight and he didn't have experience to withstand such style.

Loma should have hit him back with low blows, but Loma says he is a clean (amateur) fighter, so he didn't.

    How can IT happen?

    :conf

    • A history of ineptitude on the part of Cole.

    • Good body positioning and situational awareness on the part of a very clever Salido.

    • Inexperience on the part of Lomachenko. (who, remember, asked for this...demanded it, even...yet in crunch time couldn't figure out to retaliate or swivel to give Cole a clear line of vision to back up his complaints...)

    • Somewhat high-hoisted waistband on Lomachenko.

    • Quite a lot of clean and borderline shots on the body from Salido with much (but not all) of the low stuff coming incidentally and not intentionally, the product of Cole not ever imposing a clear acceptability cutoff.

One thing I blame Lomachenko for is not complaining or pointing these out. Sure Salido's stunts were dirty but Loma should have adapted and either countered Salido when he was going for these low blows, or point them out to the ref.

He complained, but only verbally. He would turn his face partially to Cole and tell him about Salido hitting low.

Show, don't tell. Push down on Salido's head to keep him down in that zone and step around him to clear up the angle for Cole to see what he's doing.

...that, or "flop", as they do in pro soccer & basketball. Sell the low blow, make it completely obvious, fall onto the canvas and clutch at yourself, roll around, etc.

Plenty of championship caliber fighters have done it (Hopkins etc.) and benefited from it, either through recovery time or having points levied against the next infraction.

Clinches probably outnumbered low blows 3:1. :yep

    Probably even more, real talk.

    A lack of professional savvy.

    Too hasty.

    At least 10 per round.
Why would you allow a guy that outweighs you by 15-20 pounds to get inside, and why would you get inside?
Close fight or not, it wasn't the most intelligent decision to take this fight. A loss is a loss, no matter how close it was.

Not saying about the absense of experience in professional carriere, you don't know his mentality. It's not like him to complain about anything and to blame anything but him.
I don't think you'll even be able to get this point.

Yeah I totally agree. Mayweather sells his opponent's fouls all the time. If someone is fighting dirty, make them pay for it. Otherwise, why would your opponent stop? It may not be the most chivalrous way to win but in the pro game, it's about winning when your career is at stake.

No, I get it, that's an admirable quality - but pragmatically speaking it cost him.
