    Hi everyone,

Just seen this new training device it looks like a gasmask, its called The Elevation Training Mask.
Made by Former UFC lightweight champion Sean Sherk.
Developed to take his workouts to a higher level- literally.

It is designed to replicate high altitude training.

It allows users to regulate and reduce the amount of oxygen they can breathe in during drills in order to improve cardio.

Breathing less oxygen forces the body to adapt in compensation producting new red blood cells to improve transportation of the gas.
When athletes return to normal altitudes or remove the elevation training mask their bodies are more effective during exercise and have an increased V02 max or ability to absorb oxygen.

It says that it strengthens the diaphragm and increases the elasticity in the alveoli - expanding lung capacity.

So what do you think guys?

This actually gives you benefit's like it says, or do you have to wear it all the time for your body to adapt to the so called high altitude it states.

There is write up's elsewhere on the net saying you would have to wear it for a very long time(everyday) not just in training, for your body to actually adapt properly to the high altitude like environment.

Do you think its just a tool to try and fool people like us to buy because its very pricy at 89 dollars

For more info you can visit the website at www.trainingmask.com

Looking forward to hearing from everyone on this.

There is probably as much science backing it as Crossfit. Maybe a few poorly done studies advocating it. Think of this, more oxygen=greater energy production and improved performance, leading to better workouts.

From what I have read from some Florida research, one should train under the opposite, high oxygen conditions, due to improved ability to work at faster than usual speeds.

High altitude training, which this is mimicking, has been found to reduce the intensity and quality of training sessions. While blood hemoglobin levels do increase, work rate decreases, which is not a good trade off.

To answer your question it sounds much like Strength Shoes. While they were found to not be beneficial, they sure made a good episode of Seinfeld. I think this is what will happen with this oxygen mask.

I remember seeing one MMA fighter walking around with a snorkel on some show while they were training. That must be for those who can't afford to wear an $89 piece of junk gas mask.

The claims are very convincing if taken at face value. I sometimes watch TV and see some of these inventions and think, "people are making a lot of money on this crap." Why am I killing myself trying to be reputable? Then my conscience and morals return.

I believe it was in 'Bigger, Stronger, Faster' that they were talking about alternate forms of performance increasing supplements for an athlete's training.

One that they mentioned was about how Lance Armstrong had a high-altitude isolation chamber that he would have to sleep in every night in order to get the benefit being described by the gimmick for this gadget.
