    you can start with the British, it is near worthless except to it's holder, it means very little outside of that.

    a Terrible shame too, at one time it was damn near a World Title such was the prestige and honour it carried!

    not sure when this changed probably in the 1970s.

    As much as i see the use of the Masters title, i wouldent put them over an area as the Area titles hold more history and prestige .... in my opnion.

    The titles are just there I think to help the small hall promoters sell thier shows.

    Anybody who nows anything about boxing knows the master titles etc are worthless.

    British title is still worth having though in my opinion. Best looking belt in world boxing.

    I would rank Area Titles ahead of Masters Titles, if a fighter is domestic level at best then they know that an ultimate goal would be to get their hands on the Lonsdale belt. Seing as Area Titles are BBBoC Titles this helps fighters who hold them get rankings and hopefully a shot at the British.

    The belts run by the board go as follows;

    Area title
    Welsh, Scottish and Celtic (where applicable)
    English title
    British title

    Prior to the late 1990s and early 2000s, winning an area title was stepping stone to the British. The English title didn't exist until 2002-ish.

    The Masters titles are a completely different kettle of fish as they are run by the Promoter's Association not the board.

    They were created in the 1990s solely as a way of helping small hall promoters to sell shows to fans who don't know any better. They have no prestige, can be contested by any boxer and do not necessarily help a boxer move up rankings or move towards a genuine British title shot.

    That said, if used correctly they can serve a purpose. Through the traditional route, boxers would be required to box four, six and eight rounders before moving into title class. Masters titles allow this progression to be jumped.

    A case in point was Adil Anwar. In 2010 a fight was made for him to challenge Nigel Wright in a ten rounder for the English belt. The board knocked the fight back because they said he didn't have enough experience having only boxed six-rounders previously.

    In order to boost his experience, his promoter arranged for him to box for the Masters belt. It's easier to sanction and would get into ten round fights. He won two fights (against Frontin and Nathan Graham) before getting an English title shot.

    Those Masters fights set to the foundation which helped him progress to eventually boxing for the British against Darren Hamilton.
