From a head butt in the 3rd round. The audio of Browne's corner between rounds 3 and 4 clearly shows what happened. They said to Lucas.."they said you head butted him". Simultaneous cuts from a head butt in the 3rd round. Lucas took a small cut and low damage on the head butt. Welliver took a fractured eye socket and within 3 minutes his entire eye was closed from a head butt. The Aussies never cover the cuts, the head butt, never talk about what is said about the butt in Browne's corner, and they all hide the fact the damage was from a foul....not punches. The Aussie's failed to run the fight correctly and to protect the fighters. The fight was a No Contest 100% of the time in a proper environment. Welliver was entirely blind in the butted eye for half the 4th and the entire 5th round. Plain as day robbery and corruption. :deal

I'm going to try to say this without insulting Welliver anyway, because he boxes, which is something I've never had the courage to do, and don't expect that I ever will now I'm in my early 30's I'll ever grow said courage.

Without being sarcastic, it's amazing what Welliver has been able to accomplish in boxing with how big he is. It's almost more amazing than some people who have all the physical tools in the world and fail miserably at this sport (or any sport). There was a football player named Jarred Lorenzen who was a great qb at the university of UK and won a Super Bowl as a backup to Eli Manning. Yeah, he wasn't the starter, but he was on an NFL team earning a paycheck. A few months ago Lorenzen, weighing north of 350, was made temporarily internet famous for his amazing footwork he showed as QB of the semi-pro football team he owns. The skill was always there, despite the huge weight issues. It's amazing to me that Welliver has accomplished what he has at the heavyweight division. His detractors would say "Imagine if he was in shape" and that is a correct "what if." I look at it as "look at what he has done." 69 fights and never knocked down too. Was sort of disappointing to see that he is apparently is retiring, though it seems his gym in Washington State is doing well, and hopefully he is making good money doing that.

That's my sappy piece of the day.

Welliver got with Joe Hipp and Roland Jankelson and He Came To Believe! They dropped him down to 230 pounds or so and he stayed in that range quite awhile. Went up to #5 in the world with the WBC and WBO. But during that time he was jaetting back and forth for fights all over the world, fighting as frequent as anyone, plus doing big sparring gigs like going to Russia to be Povetkin's main guy for the Chagaev fight. He probably got spread a bit too thin there and never got a solid break the whole run. A couple points in China to Tough Tank Williams stopped the run's momentum. But it was an epic run even ending there. Very close to garnering a world title fight.

Before he got with them he was calling himself The Fat Dorky White Guy and even got announced as that in front of all the former champions in Germany for the Vitaly Klitschko comeback. Even the ring announcer paused to make sure it was accurate and not something somebody slipped in there. That was pretty deep into his career that started at 18 in the pros and 2 years earlier than that in Tough Man. From 16 on he's been fighting grown men HW's.

He has one of the best, if not best chins in the HW division. God given and unteachable tool. If he had spent his entire career at 240 pounds or less he would have vastly increased his chances to have become HW Champion. He already had very good cardio and stamina even while very big and regularly logged 12 rounds of action in his career. Which is something most of the posters calling him fat and out of shape could never do. Most posters cannot even hit a heavy bag for 3 solid rounds that doesn't hit back. Welliver at a trim weight, with his m***ive chin, and very good cardio, could have been a monster volume puncher that applied heavy pressure on his opponents. He needed that volume as the other god given, though more teachable talent, is power. And he didn't have even average HW power. Not Zuri Lawerence low but just a grade or two above.

All that said, at Welliver's age, with his experience and that big chin, he could still again make HW noise if he knocked off some weight and decided to go after some of the bigger name fighters. He has the tools to upset quite a few men who most people would think would defeat him. I tell you what, on his good night, he lasts longer than Pulev. Beating Wlad on points is a chore but I know Welliver could take him the distance barring injury. :bbb

Wellivers chin is a myth. Solis was very close to laying him out, and Browne also may have dropped him if he punched from the correct range (he kept smothering himself, and yet still managed to bust up Welliver).

Welliver has zero defense, no power, no footwork......he gets destroyed by most top HW's. No way does he go the distance with Wlad. Thats nothing more than target practice for Wlad, and Welliver wouldn't go half the fight. Welliver in his best shape, has nothing to deter Wlad with and certainly can't outbox him.

Actually, Chauncey is one helluva guy.

He might have essentially stopped running when his wife became preggo with their first daughter, bout 2 yrs ago, and ballooned up to 270-300, but for a time, he was a fit volume punching SP at 240 with good handspeed, and a Dominic Guinn/Ollie McCall like s****y beard.

The beard is still there, but the handspeed went out the door with his training. Though he owns a BoxFit chain in or around Spokane Washington(home of the GOAT 2nd Baseman Ryne Sandberg), he doesnt seem to focus too much on shedding pounds, but rather being fit even when obese.

As for a buddy. He's the kindof guy you could pack up the minivans with and take a family trip to the zoo by day, then hop into the Vette at 10PM and hit the pool hall by night.:good

So he ballooned up when his wife was pregnant? Can'tt we say that Welliver himself was/is pregnant?
