Apparently he's now vsing Icho Larenas on Aug 14. Never seen Larenas, but a quick boxrec shows 15(14)-3(0) so I mean, he has more power than Basile at a glance, plus hasn't been KO'd before? Still an absolute walkover from Browne I'd assume, while he waits for the Chagaev fight. See how it goes. Browne really needs to step it up soon, he was a ridiculously late starter (debut at 29), plus not very skilled at all, bar his great right hand power. So the fact he's come this far has been pretty impressive. But he's 36 and not getting younger.
He hasn't fought anyone yet and this guy fits easily into that classification. Chagaev is such a massive step-up I hope it doesn't end too badly.
Needs to keep bbusy, why not? Browne has been far too inactive lately waiting around for his shot. 2-3 stay busy fights while waiting for his big one wouldn't be a bad idea.
Just saw the guy's boxrec page. He has lost to all 3 opponents (one he fought twice) that had a "winning" record. This guy is bottom of the barrel material.
Browne could definitely have better handling, but the WBA are ridiculous in letting Chagaev fight two fights before defending against Browne....
The Julius Long that got KO'd by Audley Harrison? :rofl:rofl:rofl:rofl Ffs, that guy hasnt won a fight in like 2 years has he?
Browne is extremely overrated. It would be very smart from Wilder to defend his title against Browne now till most people think highly of him. Still, he doesn't feel secure even against an old slow inactive australian with poor boxing skills. As a result, he may possible lose to some mediocre fighter before getting a shot against Chagaev.
Glad it's not just me that has questions about Browne's rating. I'm going to watch this with interest, tbh while Browne should still win this fight - unless he has improved quite a bit beyond losing some weight I still suspect Long could trouble him a bit, if he has been keeping fit at least - given he's only got a week warning... way too late to do anything useful to prepare specifically.
