Lucas Browne vs. Travis Walker & Jake Carr vs. Serge Yannick RBR

Round 1

Yannick is reaching out with long jabs to the head and sweeping in low hooks from outside as Carr leads him along with his body twisted a three-quarter-turn away while crabbing. They exchange hooks and Yannick especially gets a lot of leverage on his, placing it flat on the side of Carr's face. Counter body clusters by Carr as he backs up, staying low and turning his head. Blatant low blow by Yannick, warned. Yannick is reaching and missing with jabs and trying to set up that big left hook, but Carr is too mobile and slippery.

Round 2

Yannick is backing Carr up with pairs of L-R hooks up top and then sticking the jab when Carr spreads his guard to intercept. Big hooks traded, Yannick's harder. Carr is dancing away, floating to his right with quick toe patter, as Yannick closes off the ring.

Round 3

Yannick is whipping in overhand rights to the body as he pressures Carr, but isn't keeping up. Carr is changing directions frequently, covering his passes with long hooks and poking body shots. Double jab by Yannick sliding forward, hitting the guard. Shoeshine to the body followed up by a left hook from Carr, all while circling and moving backwards out of the pocket. Nice boxing. High jab by Carr shuffling left, hooking down off the jab after it whizzes past Yannick's head. Combos to the body and thudding hooks on the cheek by Carr. Yannick leaps forward and connects with a solid left hook, trying to steal the round.

Round 4

Yannick is jabbing on the front foot and slapping around the side with underhand rights. Carr is positioning his right glove over his chin and doing a lean-and-roll to catch shots on his left shoulder. Yannick is jabbing straight and hard on the way inside and putting in some weighty left hooks. Carr is backed up and forced into a submissive role, constantly defending and never getting to counter outside a couple of flutter jabs and body shots without any torque on them. Carr ducks a jab and gets strapped across the neck with an overhand right while ducking and leaning. Exchange at the bell as Yannick pushes Carr up on the ropes and both dig hooks to the body.

Despite Yannick having four times Carr's pro experience (in a campaign of more than six years, contrasted with Carr's scant ten months) this is very evenly matched.

It's a nice little scrap for the Australian super middleweight title - 1st defense of Yannick.

 

Round 5

Yannick is leading with hooks to the jaw and then dropping a follow-up to the abs. Carr is backing up, orbiting while rotating his body, spinning Yannick, jabbing and hooking from a loose high guard that rapidly transforms into a low carry with the left hand so he can snipe with jabs from mid-range and slip shots with upper body movement once safely out of the "automatic" point-blank zone of Yannick's left hook. Body combos by Carr. Yannick takes advantage of the open lane upstairs and plants a hook on Carr's temple just as Carr is digging with a left hook to his body.

Round 6

Yannick is getting pushed back as Carr finally unloads a consistent offense for the first time on the night. Carr is throwing in almost endless combination. Big scything body combos are mixed with jabs and hooks jerking Yannick's head. Yannick shrivels up into a ball and tries clomping down with overhands to fend Carr off. Finally Carr, maybe having punched himself out, eases up and Yannick punishes him with a crunching left hook.

Round 7

Yannick is applying slow and steady pressure on Carr, who seems to have not recovered from his effort in the 6th. Yannick has Carr hurt with a left hook and keeps patiently strolling forward behind the jab and fishing-rod rights to the body. Carr is staging little rallies to briefly hold his ground with jabs and very short body combos, but is forced to retreat and not moving as smoothly as before.
