"Thanks to boxing for changing my life. I remember the Argentine national boxing team, where it was very hard but good. I remember in my life all of the kids that I met and the tremendous boxers who represented Argentina with good and bad results but it was a great experience in my life that I will always remember.

"I came to Trelew at 21 years old. Me and my family, we decided to go back to Junin where I spent 11 years of my career with the great trainer Cuty Barrera and today, at 35 years old, I am once again back in Trelew.

"I am proud that I maintained my career for 10 years at the world level, where I fought with the best in boxing and I fulfilled my dream of being a world champion.

"Thanks to all those who followed me in my career, for all of their love, because that is the most beautiful thing in this sport of boxing, which is a nice environment. Today, I decide to hang up the gloves because another stage in my life is coming. And many thanks to all of the people that I met thanks in boxing."

I think that's a very good idea in his case.
Loved to see him fight, but he took too many shots and his resistance seems to be gone. With his style that's a recipe for disaster if he were to continue.

    Have a good life Matty

Was one of my favourite fighters of recent times but I think the timing is right .. he lost a step after the Garcia fight and then after Molina provodkinov and postol fights he seemed to fighting uphill

Always like to see fighters go out on a win but it’s better to stop now then carry on and risk getting seriously hurt

Matthysse has a power but he doesn't have a strong body and mind. In other words, he can't take more punishments. Good luck!

It's a shame most people will remember Matthysse for how he fought against Pacquiao and not the iron chinned, warrior he was prior to 2018.

    Happy retirement champ! :chuck:

The Argentine fighters are very likable, loved watching lucas, maidana, Martinez.
Good for them they all went out with good paydays.

He laid down against PAC. Made it look like a real fight. Cashed out. Good for him.

Look, honestly, Lucas looked good in the Pacquiao fight. He was light on his feet, more mobile than we've seen him, and he was throwing with lethal intentions. Pac had a mouse under his eye and he was never caught flush, so the power was there. Pac's just all wrong for him.

Genuinely lovely guy, arguably the biggest puncher in the sport in recent years and one of most exciting fighters to watch who put it all on the line and gave us some memorable wars. Tough, tough man in his prime too and he had to endure more than his fair share of bad luck being on the receiving end of numerous bad decisions or unfair treatment when fighting opponents in their country where the deck was stacked against him. Enjoy your retirement, champ.
