A few interesting tidbits from a new interview with Lucas Matthysse that was conducted by a website from Argentina.

    • Began Boxing at 10 or 11 when he lived with a grocery store owner, who also worked with boxers. This is where he met Marcos Maidana and says they would sell vegetables part of the day and later fight in clubs.
    • Says he fought under the name José Acebal as a professional when he was minor, even though he already had a tattoo that said Lucas at the time.
    • Gave Marcos Maidana his first tattoo
    • Confirms losing to Maidana 3 times and drawing once in the amateurs with him
    • Says when he and Maidana sparred for the national team, they both knocked each other down
    • When asked was Maidana the biggest puncher he's faced, he says Humberto Soto hit him hardest and actually hurt him, but people didn't know it because he has a good chin.
    • Says he thought about retiring after the Judah fight and again after the Alexander fight, but his daughter persuaded him to continue. Said he plans to fight until he's 32 or 33
    • If he would have went through with his retirement plans, says he could have become a carpenter or a tattoo artist.
    • Says he wants people to call him "Lucas" and not "Champ," because outside of the ring he's just a person. Says guys in the gym call him "Champ" just to get under his skin sometimes.
    • Doesn't like gifts or handouts. Says he won't go back to a restaurant if they try to give him freebies, because it makes him feel bad and he should pay like anyone else.
    • Says he's a home body who watches a lot of television. Loves documentaries on animals and aliens. But doesn't like Horror Movies.
    • Strongly believes he'll beat Garcia and says he had a dream about how it played out already. He believes Garcia won't be able to withstand his punching power.
    • Says before the Peterson fight, Garcia was smiling and waving at ringside , but after he knocked out Peterson, he was pale as a ghost.

He believes he'll beat Garcia because of factors that can't be confirmed. Some see a transition of focus in Danny's face after the Lamont KO, other's fear. And he is only hoping that Danny can't withstand his punches, if the main thing's you are banking on to get you through a fight aren't even able to be confirmed even remotely...that's not good. Lucas almost seem to be confirming Danny a better boxer and he will need a KO, at least he is focused to the point of envisioning that mission but, I wouldn't bet in that plan.

Garcia has no chance in this fight
Sometimes i wonder what people actually watch lol
I think peoples brain wont accept the fact that Matthysse destroys him

Kinda like the people who were picking Macklin to beat GGG

I didn't take it that way. It seems to me Lucas has no faith in getting a fair shake on the cards after the Judah and Alexander fights. I mean it's not like Garcia is some kind of master-boxer.

after all that YOU CANT NOT LIKE THIS GUY!, i love how honest he is... a real refreshing change of pace from alot of boxers who may have achieved more then matthyse yet still have this arrogance about them like they have something to prove...

matthyse is a real standout guy!

The majority (60-40 by my estimates) have Danny being the better boxer. If you were to accept that, then it's very hard to see Danny having no chance because that's exactly what being the better boxer does for you, give you the better chance. It's harder to see Danny having no chance than Lucas definitely scoring a KO.

Yeah, he seem real down to earth. The opposite of what Angel has team Garcia being perceived as. Still going for Danny though, don't know why people can't give him a pass on his father, it's not like he could respectfully do anything about that. Yet, people give Pac a pass on Freddie's disrespect to opponents and they have no blood ties, Pac could rid himself of Freddie with far less guilt than Danny could rid himself of father.

Not sure why Lucas gets a pass on the whole "now I'm only going for KO" deal. Have you seen his KO rate, it's obvious he always went for KO, he simply could not do it against Zab, Alexander.

The more technically skilled your opponents get, the harder it is to KO them, and the more likely you'll lose on the cards if you're only going for KO. Even if Lucas gets by Danny, he'll stand zero chance in a potential Floyd match up with that mentality, not sure why everyone wants that fight...Floyd praying the fans setup that easy payday for him.

garcia should atleast control his father a bit HOWEVER, if his attitude helps hype fights then why not lol. regarding pac and roach this is prob just how i feel about it but english is not pacquiaos first langauge. iv herd his actually pretty funny when with friends speaking his native language or doing an interview in the philipines. but when doing it in english he is really direct as the language barrier is clearly there. i think its kind of hard for him to speak out to roach like that and i think he has to much respect for everything roach has done for pacquiao to tell him to change his ways.

Exactly, it's understandable Pac feels he owes him a lot/everything. So, you would think it'd be more understandable for another boxer with the same reasons and the added reason of the trainer being his own father. Maybe it's the timing, we learned of Angel and Danny about the same time, people got to know of Pac well before Freddie started opening his mouth.

He probably gets a "pass" because most believe he won those fights against Judah and Alexander and realize with fair and competent scoring, he likely would be undefeated. To anyone who saw those fights, it was apparent Lucas started slowly, yet he was dominant in the end. He didn't KO Zab or Alexander, but I'd put money on him stopping them both in his current form. Who can blame him for wanting to take the judges out of the equation when they've wronged him in the past?

Just because Lucas feels Danny won't be able to stand up to his power, it's not to say he's "only going for the KO" and doesn't have secondary plans. You're making a whole lot of assumptions from a very vague statement.

Whoever believes Garcia is scared is a ******. He could have easily taken the shameless Amir Khan route and spent his time calling out everyone and their mother on twitter to impress worthless losers without even dreaming about serious negotiations. A lot of people are underestimating Garcia going into this fight. This fight isn't going to be easy and my bet is on Garcia to win.
