Schaefer recently said he wanted to put Matthysse and Thurman on a card together. Not against each other, but trying to build up a possible fight between the two. He even had a name already, "Heavy Hitters."
Bit of a weak opponent considering the level Matthysse has fought at recently. The Mayweather undercard looks like it's going to be weak, some big names against poor opponents.
Matthysse don't need a tune up at this point in his career his ready to jump right back in against the best.

Looks like that article from The Ring was completely untrue. Matthysse's team denied returning on the Mayweather card and said they'd be fighting in April in California. Steve Kim tweeted this moments ago :

Matthysse rematch with Garcia on neutral territory, with neutral referee and judges would be a great fight.
