Was listening to the admittedly **** commentry on Primetime tonight and i noticed that they were talking about Lucian Bute being ranked at No1 by 'The Ring'. Does anyone else think that this is absolutely ridiculous? What really concerns me is the fact that 'The Ring' are owned by Golden Boy who have a close relationship with HBO and Bute is an HBO fighter whilst the super 6 is on Showtime. Coincidence?:think
The problem is the guys in the Super 6 keep beating each other. Bute is ranked number 1 by attrition.
Not sure about this but his achievements certainly don't warrant his ranking. Out of the three I would say that prior to tonight Froch should be at 1 with Abraham slightly below Kessler.
Finally I agree with you on something. Bute does not deserve it at all. He's beaten a guy Kessler hammered years ago, even managing to nearly lose to him the first time. Sure he's beaten a few other solid fighters like Berrio, Bika and Miranda but nobody as good as anybody in the tournament. Bute looks very good at the moment but it could all be smoke and mirrors until he proves himself against the best.
Ward should be number 1. He has a clean win over Kessler who has win over Froch who has a win over Dirrell
Bute should be ranked behind all members of the super 6 on principle, seriously guttsy move by all concerned entering a tourney such as this knowing at some point you will have to face a top fighter in his back yard (apart from Green maybe who got in through the back door and seems a bit of a nob). Has Bute defended outside of Canada yet?
Froch is No. 1. Only the crooked ref stopped him from KOing a peak, prime Kessler last night. There are some other good fighters in the world, like Pacquiao and Mayweather, but they couldn't last 12 rounds against the undefeated Cobra. :smoke
With the terrible points system boxrec uses, he probably will be. But the Ring have no excuses for ranking him number 1.
Bute just isnt number 1. Its only because HBO have decided to put a bit of money behind him so he can get exposure as a rival to the super 6. Im pretty sure most of the super 6 if in Bute's position atm would perform be able to do what he has done in his last few bouts.
Bute was #1 before Miranda which was an even bigger joke.. his resume was a UD of Sakio Of **** and one win/one loss versus Andrade... a joke.
