Lucian Bute could of beat Joe Calzaghe if he was around a bit earlier!

Well...it's impossible to say how good he will end up being, to be fair, because he hasn't been beaten yet - so we don't know how he does when he is behind and struggling - and he hasn't peaked yet. And...despite not being as good as Kessler, he did manage to make that mental shift when he had to, albeit against much inferior opposition...

So...he might never end up as good as Kessler, nevermind Calzaghe, but it is too early to say yet...I think.

Bute's chin is weaker, his defense worse and there are a lot of other things

Defense worse and a lot of other things...I agree; I don't agree with the chin being weaker though...I have no reason at all to doubt his chin being less than very solid...none at all...do you?

Well Bute's defense can always improve...he's a pretty young fighter IIRC.

His chin is fine as well. It's not rock solid but it's good enough to get by against Calzaghe. I don't see a chin check happening there.

That said Calzaghe would really box circles around him.

Let me share a little "secret" with you.

In one of Bute's recent press conferences, in Romanian, he admitted Interbox had already received offers to fight Calzaghe. Of course, in the meantime, Calzaghe signed to fight Hopkins, so the offer was no longer there and might never be on the table ever again, but, of course, if offered, Bute would take it!:good

His chin is not rock solid? I'm not saying that it is, but why are you saying it isn't?:think

obvioiusly comparing results vs common opponents is not the best way to measure the two, but using the Reid fights doesn't quite make your point. Reid fought Calzaghe like 6 years before Lacy and there was some decline. No such difference w/ Bika.

I'll admit I haven't seen much of Bute (I've seen about 4 of his fights so far...the Joppy and Bika ones most recent) but I saw an occasional moment where Lucien got caught and looked a lil unhappy about it. I've only seen HIGHLIGHTS of his fight against Berrio though his chin looked fine there.

Just something about his reactions to getting hit tell me his chin is good but not great, know what I mean?

 ...ehm...no...I don't know what you mean! :verysad

No one looks happy when they're caught flush, do they? Unless it affects your game, who cares that you look unhappy? :conf

Trust me, Bute would not get stopped by Calzaghe or Kessler because his chin ain't good enough...it would be something else...like his defence.

Right now, Calzaghe is better than Bute. But if we compare Bute's and Calzaghe's resume when Joe had 22 fights or when he was 27 years old, and I think Bute has the potential to be as great as Joe Calzaghe.

Well certain guys look unaffected. I mean Mayorga takes some nasty shots and walks through em, Bute never looks hurt...but kinda like Mikkel Kessler, he looks uncomfortable for a lil while after a nice punch is landed.

Like I said....not glass of course but definitely not sturdy enough to be considered rock solid.

Hey we'll see...maybe it is ya know? It's gotta tested a lil more first.

Bute is a talented fighter but there is no way he could beat Calzaghe. Joe is that little bit better in most departments and would win a unanimous decision if they ever fought.
