Joppy is/was beyond shot by the time he fought Bute, and honestly he wasnt that good to start with. Joppy hadnt beat anyone of note since Eastman in 01, and he didnt REALLY win that fight. Zuniga is best known for losing to top guys. Those are NOT great wins or even really decent ones for a guy that is a belt holder. If he was a contender then those fights are ok but not as a champion. Pavlik was bashed for fighting Zuniga and he wasnt even a champion at the time.

While its true that many, many belt holders today have won titles without facing top guys, the thing that gets me about Bute is that he and Kessler seem to have alot in common, there is always talks of them fighting EVERYONE but the fights never happen, while the guys around them seem to be fighting eachother.

This is how I know that there aren't too many true boxing fans on thsi forum... The fact that alot of you think that JOPPY was a freakin worthy opponent to BUTE jsut tell me that ya dont really know what you're talking about.. just fanboys talking out of their asses is what it is.. You guys are the ones who didnt even watch boxing in 00-03..

Go watch some old joppy fight leading up to the Hopkins fight.. ****in ignorant.

Dude that is boxing today...TOO many belts, too many belt holders. You cant single out Bute, there is a long list of fighters that have picked up belts without fighting elite fighters.

Vyacheslav Senchenko is the WBA welterweight champion and he hasnt even fought a top 20 welterweight.

Linares hasnt set the world on fire with is level of comp. Why not include him in this thread???

Joppy wasn't a worthy opponent, but he was a late replacement when Allan Green pulled out of a deal that was all but signed :deal

Other than Froch-Taylor (which was mandated by the ABCs), which of these fighters around them are fighting each other?

And I do agree with everything else you said there. Joppy was beyond shot and wasn't a worthy title challenger, but other than a few top P4P guys (i.e. Pacquiao, Marquez), I can't think of anyone who has fought 'worthy challengers' in each of their last 5 fights.

Bute is a champion. Green is not. Finito, you have a problem with that reality. Grow yourself an ulcer because that situation is not about to change.:D

Bute clinched once in all his career and it was a bad strategy for him. Maybe you could watch more than one fight before insulting a boxer.
