At 168, I put Bute below Ward, Froch, and Kessler. But he is a solid top 30 P4P fighter.

Ward Beat 2 common opponents of Bute, plus 1 champ rated the King of his division, and a former middlewieght champ in that division..

Bute has nobody close to that on his Resume..

If you rate Bute purely on level of opponents he defeated he doesn't rank high at all.
If you rate him purely on skill level he ranks a lot higher.

You can say he has the same problem as the K brothers at the moment, but for totally different reasons. In his case strong opponents are out there (Froch, Ward, Kessler) but he can't fight them, or they don't want to fight him yet.

Bute has never faced a world class fighter - 1 decent euro level fighter a badley faded miranda and andrade who is solid and tough but little else most of the super 6 would whip him. taking as long as he did to get rid of macgee is enough to tell you that

Bute is definitely top 5 at SMW but his lack of depth compared to the other top guys means that he is falling. Hopefully after Pavlik he will fight two of Kessler, Froch & Ward and then we will see where he really stands.

The Kessler win is very good but not the Abraham one, who showed he was nothing at SMW. His reign as a champion at MW was not very impressive neither.

Anyway you miss the point, which is that Ward as number 9 is prematured a bit.

Abraham is a bum in SMW division.
So Ward has only 1 win better than Bute: Kessler.
But people think he has a much better record.
Kessler beat Froch and ... who else?
But he has a much better record than Bute ...

People who think like that: You are all morons.

Nobody here is saying Bute has a better resume than Kessler or Froch. He doesn't. Nobody here has said Bute was one of the top 2 of the division. I once ranked Bute first (after Kessler lost to Ward) but put him second and then third and I think he's now 4th of the division. Not on skills but based on the resume. I just hope he has the chance to prove himself in a near future.

First of I agree that Ward's only claim to fame is the Kessler win and that does not warrant the pound for pund ranking that he has as of now. Secondly Bute is a highly skilled and talented fighter no question about that, but his resume is lacking when compared to Froch and Kessler. Thirdly knocking Froch and Kessler's resume is kind of silly considering the competition they have fought.

Froch: Glen Johnson, Arthur Abraham, Mikkel Kessler, Andre Dirrel, Jermain Taylor, Jean Pascal.

Mikkel Kessler: Carl Froch, Andre Ward, Dmitri Sartison, Joe Calzaghe, Librado Andrade, Marcus Beyer, Anthony Mundine, Eric Lucas, Manny Siaca.

Bute needs to fight the top at SMW otherwise it is a story of what could have been... Resume wise Bute cannot be ranked in the top three at SMW which I think is a tossup between Froch, Ward and Kessler. Skill wise he looks the goods, but untill he fights a top tier SMW it is hard to tell were he is at for certain.

I think exactly the same, he's moved down from 1st to 4th due to him not being able to fight the best.

You should not put Green on Ward's resume. It is not a great win. It means nothing in his resume, especially if you consider the way he fought him.
