Nice promo to hide the fact that Magee is pretty limited skillwise. Interbox will have a harder time filling the Bell Center now that Miranda won't fight St-Juste.
It's actually a Bute hate who's reflecting on his opponent's. The hate is getting bigger and bigger and Magee is now Bute next fight and he finds himself on the receiving side. If Magee was scheduled to fight Degale for example next, He would be presented as a talented British fighter who had a good amateur career and a good run, instead of being a "bum" or a "can".
No he wouldn't. He would be a decent stepping stone for a fighter who is trying to establish himself on the European and world stage. Brian Magee should not be fighting for a title and that is the bottom line. Bute choosing him as an opponent is disgraceful. This is a terrible fight for a champion, who has something to prove, to take. He should be fighting top contenders, not b-level has-beens.
Magee is in the form of his life, hardly a has been when hes better than ever. and if magee fought degale now he would demolish him.
I respectfully disagree. Magee has fought a number of weak fighters in the process of getting his hands on the EBU title. Wins over novices and journeyman (I'm not being overly critical, this is the truth), do not equal good form. Magee has fought better competition in the lead up to the Froch fight. I think Degale, based on recent performances, would beat Magee. It would be difficult to find someone who disagrees with that, apart from yourself of course. Magee has fought weak opposition, not faced a good, ranked opponent for years, and has done nothing to earn a shot at the title. Bute should be fighting worthy challengers, and Magee, for all his dedication, is not worthy of a shot at Bute's title. Bute takes the easy option once again.
degale would not beat magee right now, no chance. how is larrsen, although not as good as he once was, a novice or a journeyman? not mention magee was jobbed in the tsypko fight
Larsen was years past his best, and had not fought since 2008. Not to mention he was in his prime 7 years prior to the Magee fight. Maybe Magee deserved the nod against Tsypko, but that was 5 years ago. That is a hell of a long time. Magee is not the same fighter today that he was back in 05. Bute should not be fighting a fighter who was in his prime in 2005, and that is the bottom line.
Magee is in his prime now, hes much better than he was in the days of the froch fight. go into the irish thread and ask if magee was in better form in 05 than he is now.
I don't think Magee is in his prime now at all, but if that's your opinion then I'm not going to try and change it. I think the Magee of a few years ago would be more competitive with Bute than the Magee of today without a doubt. A few wins over past it fighters and novices doesn't convince me that Magee is in his prime. Whichever way you see it, he has done nothing to earn a shot at Bute.
