Real talk, I feel bad for Bute. You can tell he's mentally a shell of himself after the Froch fight. He's a really classy dude and good ambassador for the sport. Hope he gets out with his health intact and some money tucked away.
Nice, generous post. I have to say that I don't feel bad for Bute. Given the talent he has had and his level of performance, he had some grat opportunities, he was one of the best supported fighters out there and he has also had some of the best paydays. He has been one of the luckiest 10-20 boxers of his generation, all in all. He has been a good ambassador for the sport and he has done his best, all in all, but the best way to repay the fans for their amazing support, I think, is to retire now, before they get sick of him, and to count himself lucky, and to be grateful, rather than feel sorry for himself. (He didn't sound sorry for himself at the post-fight conference, btw) When I will think about Bute's career in 10 years' time, what I will remember most is probably the way the fans of Quebec supported him back as he was trying to rebuild himself emotionally/mentally after the Froch destruction. This is support at its best. Fans at their best. And this is why sport can be so inspiring. Personally, I think Bute did his best to rebuild his morale, and I have no complaints - had his morale been shot, had he been completely broken mentally, he would have thrown caution to the wind altogether. Despite being too hesitant and not brave enough, the fact that he tried and mostly managed to keep it together mentally in there, is for me, a positive.
I had it 116-112 Pascal, and it wasn't that hard to score. LMAO what were those Brits smoking? Bath salts??!:silly The closest I could score it was a DRAW by being hyper biased towards Bute. I think even he knew he had lost. Yet Bellew somehow ''couldn't make a case for Pascal winning''?!:rofl Yeah, I think that's what happened. I'm the first one to admit JP's stamina sucks, but he didn't look tired tonight. It was a strategy by his coach or RJJ who believed he could catch Bute with something big, at least that's what I got from the advice between the rounds (also maybe a financial motivation). He'd at the very least insured a draw at that point like I just said, but it still seemed risky to me, just because Bute is such a sneaky body puncher. What can I say... the guy is unpredictable Ditto.:deal I think he still very much has it physically, but I fear he's mentally done. Hope I'm wrong.
The last 3 that Pascal pretty much gave away and the first round when they studied each other. Could have been tougher on Bute. Good point. Excellent analysis.:good
I rewatched those rounds and Pascal seems to have won them with little doubt(excluding the last one).
Well, would have to do the same. I read somebody who said the third and the fifth were rather close, but I didn't think so. Than again, I was listening to that awful Scottish commentator who was tossing some salad rght till the end.:hey Anyway, we're pretty much on the same page I think.
