IBF super middleweight champion Alejandro "Naco" Berrio (26-4, 25 KOs) will make the first defense of his world title against German challenger Danilo Haussler (29-3, 7 KOs) on a Sauerland Event boxing card in September in Germany. The bout was originally slated for June 23 in Zwickau, Germany, but the bout was derailed due to issues between the promoters and Berrio's management. Damn right! Berrio wasn't going to provide much of a challenge anyway, so he reasonably decided to do the wise thing and duck Bute, in this way ensuring that he still has a chance to prance around in that belt come Christmas! Bute should DEFINITELY fight someone better than Berrio now! Bring on Froch, bring on Inkin, bring on Mundine...heck!...any of these guys will do, if they have the balls! And then we can see what Bute is really made of!
www.fightnews.ca provides an answer: Shot of the day! This content is protected Can Lucian Bute take a shot? His chin proved just that as he tasted the power of the Scorpion June 15th in Montreal. Bute's victory in the IBF Elimination bout moves the undefeated prospect closer to getting an opportunity at a world title. (Photo: Herby Whyne, Sportzframe) Friday June 29, 2007 ...wasn't he KD'd as an amateur by that amazing Russian guy, forget his name...Oganov?
Yap! He should really fight Inkin or Mundine, because Froch looks unlikely to happen - seems to have gone a different route. What is annoying is that he is even less likely to get a shot at the loser/winner of JC-MK, because he won't have that belt by the time those two are ready for another one...
Mundine should be his main target next. Failing that, a fight with Inkin or Beyer would be good for him.
True enough yeah. But it's all about improving as a fighter. Beyer is quite experienced and could possibly cause some problems for Bute although I very much doubt he'd win. It's unlikely Beyer will fight Bute though, unless Bute held a title.
Oganov = amazing??? this guy only fought bums up to this moment and wasn't an accomplished amateur... ...you mean Bute's nemisis, former amateur world champion and Olympic silver medalist Gennady Golovkin (who's from Kazakhstan). he's already making his way up the rankings at 160: http://www.boxrec.com/boxer_display.php?boxer_id=356831 In maybe 2-3 years they could meet again...
:good My thinking says Bute should not worry about names right now, especially not about "past greats" like Beyer - who's not really getting much better and who realistically doesn't have MUCH of a chance of winning this one, but should concentrate on the dangerous up-and-comers or the guys at the top. I don't mind if Bute outstretches a bit and risks losing, if the alternative is fighting just for the sake of ticking things over. I will support Bute even if he loses his cherry, as long as he strives to improve and keeps daring to be the best.
:good Thanks for correcting me! It was Golovkin I was thinking of! Now I remember! I didn't even get his nationality right!atsch I would really like to see these two in the ring again! What an anticipated fight that would be! :yep
You shouldn't mourn too much over this, Decebal. I predict a january bout vs Berrio - unless he loses to Haussler - not really sure what he has done to deserve the shot though. I smell rotten fish though, if fought in Germany. Even if both Rudy Markussen and Mads Larsen were able to win there vs Haussler. I think, if it become january, it will all be in favor of Bute. More time to recouperate mentally from the Bika fight - and more time to finetune and hone his newly improved defensive skills.
Does Bute need to recover for so long after Bika? I think he would have been ready for another one in September. I don't want Bute to end up being one of those guys that fights twice a year. He should fight at least 5 times in 2 years. Though, you are right...he needs to practice and improve, but if he fights Berrio in January (not a bit too early for Berrio?) and wins, then it's July until he fights someone else...too long to wait...and after Berrio, it would have to be someone good anyway, but if we wait for so long, we'll probably expect someone really good...doesn't Bute need more fights before he is ready for someone really good in July 2008? So then, maybe, he'll take it a bit slower, an won't fight someone really good until January 2009...but that is a hell of a time to wait, for us and for Bute himself... Remember that it was Bute's dream to fight for a world title by the end of this year. He gave up fighting in March this year, because he got the eliminator shot against Bika. But Bute needs more fights to gain actual fight experience...if he has to wait until January for another fight, this won't help him improve very much...that's why I'm annoyed by this...
Bute took some serious skull from Bika and shrugged it off. Berrio is a bigger puncher however, dangerous guy.
