Luciano Leonel Cuello vs. Samir Santos Barbosa RBR

This is for the interim WBC Latino super bantamweight title.

 

Estrella is introduced as "Maravilla". :yep

I guess that's becoming quite the popular moniker down there.

One does have to wonder, though - how many actually are marvels? :think

 

Round 1

Estrela hooks the body. Sudden burst of speed, and Estrela is hammering Ramirez to the ropes with quick sharp hooks and straights...and DOWN HE GOES!! Ramirez gets up looking shell-shocked and tries to circle with his guard up and cool the pace down a bit. Estrela is having none of it. Big frenetic hooks to the body and massive right hands up top, throwing everything into them. Ramirez down AGAIN! He gets up and there is some confusion as he and Estrela start to resume fighting before the referee insists on going through the formality of a count. He gets to three before he's satisfied letting the action continue. Ramirez does better after the second knockdown, covering up and towing Estrela to the ropes, getting a few slaps in.

Can't believe Ramirez wasn't done in one, considering how much time was left after each KD.

 

Round 2

Estrela circles left and jabs. Ramirez comes forward, squatting and lunging in with several claps to the body. Estrela is forced to lean back against the ropes as Ramirez keeps landing his wide body shots. Estrela finally pierces a hole in the roof with a strong 1-2 and gets out to the middle of the ring. Ramirez is still boldly clapping at the body with a wide stance. Estrela lines up a PERFECT straight counter and down goes Ramirez. Estrela rushes in, raining overhands on him. The ref grabs Ramirez by the nape of the neck and yanks him out of harm's way.

TKO2!!

 

This was one of the finishing blows in Cuello vs. Barbosa...about half a dozen punches after the stoppage really ought to have taken place (and about thirty punches after it would have taken place in the UK)

I obviously didn't hit the PrintScreen button at the exact correct moment, but it serendipitously resulted in this eerie ghosted effect. It's almost like one of JETSKI's paintings.

Anyway, you can tell by the slumped posture of Barbosa that he was taking needless whacks here. I think Cuello landed a couple more even after this.
