After looking at the fight again, Kirkland was bone dry coming into the ring. The guy didn't even warm up, Ishida was though. Kirkland was pretty dumb in this fight. He definitely shouldn't have ditched Ann Wolf.

By this logic, I suppose all Joe Frazier suffered was seven flash knockdowns against George Foreman. Hey, he got up quickly each time right??

Basically with such a height and reach disadvantage, Kirkland needed to be much more a dynamic fighter, stepping in much faster, moving his head and power punching from afar to deal with it. All legitimate and telling blows, gets kd inside to a right uppercut, stung and pressed back against the ropes for the 2nd KD and sharp shot from a long right hand coming down which usually works well on shorter southpaw opponents. Whether Kirkland lost all those assets he needed to prevail in his layoff, I would say most probably so.

Hey I'm just repeating what Kirkland said. That you mentioned Joe Frazier, maybe Kirkland is like him in the sense that he is very vulnerable in the first 2 rounds. This Kirkland guy seems to have an history of getting hurt in the early rounds of a fight, especially the first. But to Joe Frazier's credit he was NEVER hurt by a guy with so little of a KO rate, of course.

Oh, but he was hurt. He didn't know he got KD 3 times, when he asked Cortes why he stopped the fight. This happened in the 1st round, early in the 1st round. It's either Kirkland can't count that high, (that DUMB) or he was really, unexpectedly, hurt, I guess.

3 Flash Knockdowns in 1 rd! Get ****ing real. Kirkland was hurt. U could see little pieces of glass flying around everywhere when he was getting rattled and Cortez teabagging him didn't help him either.

Kirkland was ass****ed back in jail, so when he fought the japanese, his ass just couldnt stand the 2-minute pressure and buckled.

Bottom line is Kirkland is a very entertaining fighter to watch. Sometimes ass beaters get caught because their primary focus isn't defense but to hit and beat down their opponents, which makes for entertaining fights. Putting yourself in harm's way can mean that you get harmed. We must take the good with the bad. I have always said that Kirkland's undoing will be his defense and reckless style. However, he's going to be fun to watch no matter who he is in there with. Anyone can get caught. It happens. Happened to Lennox. Happened to Marvin Hart against Billy Hanrahan. Doesn't mean he has no chin. I saw Kirkland take some bombs in several of his fights. Fact is he just got out of prison and anyone who knows boxing knows that after a long layoff a fighter is never the same, and he won't be for a while. Yes, he does need to work more on his defense and relaxation. Regardless, would you rather see a guy run around and grab and stink it out for 10 rounds, or a guy who goes in there with a kill or be killed mentality, who scores a KO or gets KO'd? Personally, I have watched enough stinkfests to last a lifetime. When I have been in a room full of people for a PPV and it isn't a war, folks don't even watch the bout, and just sit around and talk. But when you see an ass kicker in there, especially when he's in there with a guy fighting back, everyone watches intently. I'd watch him again and look forward to it. Don't totally count him out.
