    59-58 Tapia
    58-59 Caceres
    58-56 Tapia

    :-(

I like Tapia; he made me a fan on that Corley-Matthysse undercard...but he didn't deserve this win at all.

    Big boys.

Buenos Aires' own local heavyweight legend Gonzalo Basile (AKA "the tattooed guy that Marcelo Nascimento of Brazil made mincemeat of in a single round that was heavily researched on Youtube prior to Nascimento's meeting with Tyson Fury") is in with countryman Manuel Pucheta, who comes out to some loud thrash.

This one is on tape delay; the result is already up on Boxrec.

    Round 1

Basile keeps plodding and jabbing. Pucheta is circling away at a distance, arms up to protect his man-boobs but a bit too low to keep Basile's jabs out of his face. Very slow and boring start. Basile swings his arms like giant dead weights at Pucheta's sides as the smaller and fatter man tries to step inside on him. Basile gets back to flicking his long jab into Pucheta's face from long range when they break up. There is a steady drum beat. Someone in the crowd has a big marching-band drum. It's the most exciting part of the fight.

    10-9 Basile

    Round 2

Basile jabs and Pucheta grabs him (which entails Pucheta putting his arms out straight, level with own head and only just underneath Basile's armpits). Basile frowns at the ref as Pucheta continues to step inside behind a high guard and then slap and grab low. Wild lunging shots by Pucheta and another clinch. Basile calmly plods until anchoring himself and watching Pucheta from his own peekaboo stance. A trickle of jabs from Basile. Pucheta hooks at his head as Basile ducks down and they clinch again. Jabs from Basile. Pucheta blocks them and shuffles to his left. Basile throws a 1-2 from across the Corona logo, missing by "oron".

    20-18 Basile

    Round 3

Basile hurts Pucheta a little with a 1-2. Pucheta nods and wades back in with his hands low in a show of machismo. Wild windmilling shots up high by Pucheta. Basile is trying to pull straight back above the waist slickly to dodge. Basile jabs to the beat of the drums in the crowd (keeping like 1/4 time). Again Pucheta is rocked by a combo but Basile doesn't follow up, even though Pucheta is leaning back on his heels. Pucheta spreads his stance wide and throws some body shots at the end of the round, trying to steal it.

    Round 4

Basile is landing jabs to the throat and Pucheta is just grinning at him, showing his multicolored mouthpiece. Pucheta paws with his jab on the outside, just for show - way too far to land. Basile digs a right to the body. Pucheta keeps walking in with his guard high. Basile is very selective with his output, but landing his right hand and jab at will. All one and done. Finally he throws a looping combo and knocks Pucheta down with a right cross to the top of Pucheta's head. Pucheta hoists his fat frame up from his knees.

    10-8 Basile

    40-35 Basile

    Round 5

Basile jabs, landing. Pucheta jabs, falling short. This is not a thriller. Neither is moving. Just stationary jabbing, with the taller man landing and the shorter man falling short. That's it. They step together and both flail away with their free hands while hugging. The referee tells them to knock it off. Basile keeps jabbing from outside. Pucheta keeps dropping his guard and lifting it back up. Lunging right hand by Pucheta just misses. He keeps crawling in beneath Basile's jab and grabs him just above the trunks. Pucheta jabs high and catches nothing. High right hand now, missing. High lunging left hook misses too. Pucheta is ridiculously inaccurate. He clips Basile lightly with a left hook as they're slowly "trading" at the bell.

    Round 6

Basile jabs a little to start the round and then begins to lazily circle with his hands down, pulling his head back to avoid Pucheta's lunges. Pucheta starts missing more and more narrowly. Basile is getting clinched before he can make up his mind to jab. Pucheta stays in front of him, guard up. Basile jabs out of a low-hand stance. Both have their feet glued to the ground. Pucheta throws a 1-2 to the body. They clinch and spin. Basile takes a couple of plodding steps back and throws his own jab and right cross to the head. Pucheta puts his guard back up. Basile watches him and poses. Jabs from Basile. Pucheta blocks. Basile bends his knees, looking for a spot to jab low. Pucheta chases him into a corner with lunging shots. Basile gets out to the center of the ring and tries to get Pucheta with an uppercut, but finds Pucheta pulling his own reins just before walking into it.

    Round 7

Basile jabs with confidence now. He bends his knees and extends his jab, bringing it back low. Pucheta punishes him with a lunging left hook and right hand and BASILE IS ON ***** STREET. Basile is bashed against the ropes and leans into them, and the referee interrupts to apply a standing 8 count. Basile gathers himself and starts to remember to keep his hands up (but still lets them drift down every few seconds when he's jabbing). Pucheta lunges high with his own upjab. Basile stays close. NICE UPPERCUT by Basile, sends sweat flying out of Pucheta's hair. Basile lobs his jab and right hand from long range, very calm as if having forgotten the previous events of the round (getting hurt and receiving a technical knockdown, and later hurting Pucheta with that uppercut).

    10-8 Pucheta

    68-63 Basile

    Boxrec has some bad info.

"Pucheta down in the 3rd round
Basile down in the 5th round"

Pucheta was down in the 4th. Basile was down in the 7th. :huh

    Apparently Pucheta's left glove broke.

They hurriedly unlace it and replace it. This is crazy. I've never seen this.

The 8th round would have been over by now (well, if this were live...you know what I mean...)

They'll correct it when they've been informed (their forums do allow folks to correct it). They often get early results wrong too.

    Round 8

They walk together and become a big 475+ pound blur of heads and fists until the ref screams at them. Both seem intent on clinching and slapping behind the head. They keep doing it. Nice right hand by Basile, who seems to want to break the pattern by stepping back a little. Pucheta lumbers in and grabs him again anyway. Lunging left hook by Pucheta, who spins himself around (and gets hit with a right hand while turned). Triple jab by Basile. Pucheta grabs his arm and pins it until forced to let go. The ref keeps a close and watchful eye on them. Basile jabs into Pucheta's guard. Basile swipes with a slow telegraphed looping right. Pucheta comes in with another horribly executed left hook, yanking himself off his feet and nearly turning his back into Basile.

    Shitty fight.

    First scorecard for Basile
    second: 74-75 Pucheta
    third: 79-74 Basile

Wow, all over the place. I agree with the third. Basile isn't very good, mind you. He's just better than Pucheta and shut him out other than the round where he got stupidly caught and hurt.
