I REALLY don’t like Samuel Vargas. He makes hideous faces while he’s fighting.

Also rubbed me altogether the wrongest possible way coming up when he was a hyped prospect in his adopted home of Canada, he always seemed very lacking in technical skills despite his arrogant self-entitled demeanor, and Sepulturero Munguia exposed that dearth of fundamentals by taking him out behind the woodshed in his first loss, I'll never forget that (and consequently will never be able to really take Vargas seriously)

Yeah, don't get it twisted: if Collazo does lose tonight it doesn't mean we have some unheralded diamond in the rough prospect in Vargas - it just means Collazo finally became whole-hog shot to bits overnight (instead of having one foot on the platform and one foot on the proverbial train, as has been the case for years now, with flashes of awful form and flashes of vintage).

    Sam Vargas is C+, period.

    Round 1 Vargas 10-9

Vargas outworked Collazo for the majority of the round, Collazo landed a few sharp shots in the middle.

    :deal:

Hence why I said Collazo gets old tonight, also Vargas' pressure stylistically doesn't suit Collazo.

I've always thought Vargas looks like that scrawny kid from middle school who didn't talk much but had a bit of an attitude at times, was bullied often but seemed weirdly unaffected by it. Got bad grades but was pretty good at some specific sport, maybe soccer.

    Round 1

Collazo is leaning back and springing in with right jabs missing past the neck and looking to plant a left hand in the breadbasket as he falls against Vargas before tying up. Vargas is repelling him with two-armed shoves and walks him down, pressing him against the ropes, working uppercuts on the body and looping combos on the chin. Leaning against the ropes, Collazo tries slipping punches and then yoyoing forward to land his counters, but his timing is off and he's missing or dinging Vargas barely just behind his ear. Vargas lumping away, mostly with body shots, grinding in on the veteran.

    10-9 Vargas

    Round 1 Vargas 10-9
    Round 2 Vargas 10-9, close

Vargas going to the body consistently, Collazo lands a few counter lefts, more body work from Vargas a few uppercuts from Luis, Collazo unloads, Vargas trying to slip then, not working, Vargas gets him on the ropes, goes to work. Headclash, Collazo milks it Doc lets it continue, Collazo lands a few from the outside.

    Round 2

Collazo is attempting but failing the shoulder roll, as Tessitore & co. point out. Everything he tries is failing, actually. His check hooks aren't timed well, and he's giving Vargas plenty of time for reactive adjustments on the way in, leading to Collazo missing and getting hit with counter flurries or downstairs uppercut volleys himself as Vargas gets superior positioning on him. Collazo just looking slow of hand and foot. Collazo trying lots of different slick looks defensively, but is only really effective at not getting hit when he outright runs. Vargas patiently following him around the ring, plodding and thunking in body shots where he can.

    10-9 Vargas

    20-18 Vargas
