Luis Concepción vs. Carlos Fontes RBR

Round 2

Concepción is throwing away the jab, churning the air over Fontes' right bicep with it, not even aiming for his face, using it to set up the big powerful right hand whipped roundhouse or delivered straight from the chest. Fontes is dancing around, dropping a trickle of right jabs on Concepción and touching him on the belt line with the straight left. Concepción bowls in some hard uppercuts on the middle and finds the chin of Fontes, grazing with a right hand as Fontes is frantically circling away.

The unofficial scorecard of Carlos Otero, the commentator for Noche De Campeones on TV Max (as well as that of his colleague Jorge Amaya) reads 10-9 Concepción in the second. Otero had the 1st even, 10-10.

 

Round 3

Concepción is falling short with his jab as Fontes gains control of range. Fontes is paddling his right jab off Concepción's forehead and brushing his hair with the left cross. Concepción is lunging and missing with his high head shots as Fontes backs up and keeps moving his feet, flashing out the right jab as he goes.

Otero gave Fontes the 3rd.

 

Round 4

Concepción is dispensing jabs liberally, still not sharp with them, by design, looking to set up a big right uppercut falling in. Fontes is turning Concepción and staying out beyond his range, making Concepción lunge and lose his positioning with the big uppercuts nearly spinning him around. Fontes is hitting Concepción with the left hand on the head before Concepción is able to regroup and square up again. Steady diet of right jabs fed to Concepción as Fontes maintains distance.

Otero gave the fourth even, 10-10 and has it 39-39.

 

Round 5

Concepción is caught by a few long right jabs on the brow. Concepción keeps his guard low, allowing Fontes to get in some touches, confidence growing. BIG shoveling right by Concepción and Fontes goes down hard. Fontes is up and pushing out his jab, circling right, alternately jogging laterally and scuffing his feet, careful to conserve energy while still avoiding the power of Concepción who keeps flooding uppercuts diving inside. Fontes does well to deflect a majority of them, surviving the round.

Round 6

Concepción is shucking and jiving on the outside, faking some left jabs, delivering the payload when he senses Fontes circling into his sweet spot. Fontes is nailed by one and takes it well. Concepción is making no effort to disguise the one-handedness of his attack, looking for nothing but a right hand down the middle to end Fontes' night. Fontes is wary of it, circling away from it and popping his right jab. Concepción surprises him with a left hook, grazing as Fontes tries a combo off his jab while turning Concepción.

That it took until the fifth is pretty remarkable. :yep

 

Carlos Otero gave the 6th even, 10-10. He loves doing that in any round that nobody dominates, it seems.
