Luis Concepción vs. Carlos Fontes RBR

Concepción is jumping in with his left hook, missing the face and leaving his arm slung around Fontes' neck. They push out of the clinch and reset, jabbing on the outside. Left hand lead by Fontes diving in, flush on the chin of Concepción. Short counter right by Concepción while still reeling from it. Headbutt. The ref takes a point from Concepción...no, Fontes. Both of them docked a point? :? Very unclear what is happening. It did not look terribly deliberate on either man's part, just sort of the natural byproduct of a southpaw and orthodox boxer each throwing a straight power-hand shot at the same time. :conf Time in. BIG MESSY TRADING SESSION INSIDE! Both hooking wildly. Good stuff. Fontes' height is saving him as he flops to either side, bent in half with his chin dangling under Concepción's trajectory with his big hooks. Fontes tries moving in to smother Concepción but is caught with a GIANT right as Concepción gets the half-step back he needs. Fontes smiles as he gets up. Right jabs into the face by Fontes, leaning down on Concepción to rest between every few and sticking a left cross into his eyes for good measure.

10-8 Concepción (possibly 10-7? Not sure what happened with the deduction/deductions there...)

68-63 Concepción (68-62? 67-62 if a two-way deduction, I guess...)

 

They are delaying the start of the eighth due to a cut on Concepción's eyebrow from that butt.

 

Round 9

They emerge after over a minute's delay while Concepción was checked on the ring apron. Concepción is still bleeding as he answers the bell. Fontes is standing in the pocket, ducking and dipping, leaning in on Concepción after poking with jabs and slapping him with right hooks. Concepción is looking to drill a hole in Fontes with the right hand and using his left hook to bar him from escaping the other way, giving Fontes no choice but to stay inside or back straight up where Concepción hopes to lunge and catch him with a big right.

The ref steps between them and waves, signaling the end. We should be heading to a technical decision.

That's a deep gash, taking up a good third of the length of Concepción's left eyebrow, the same width as the strip of hair and parallel to it, just beneath.
