I didn't really think many people would be all that interested if I started a thread from scratch - not that I'm making this a long OP in any way - tonight, so I thought I'd just combine it with this. Not really a ''preview'', more a ''I'm so freakin' excited :ibutt'' kind of thing.

I really don't think this can disappoint at all, these two up against each other - or any bout involving El Nica :yep - guarantees an utter war. The only downside to the first was the somewhat premature stoppage, but that was overshadowed by the brutality that preceeded it.

Hopefully there will be NOTHING to dillute the enjoyment this time, and possibly with a Concepcion that appeared more refined against Chango(an OP which I shall keep under this edit) we might see a more prolonged assault from the explosive Panamanian.

Anyways, who else is feverish in anticipation for this?

Put into perspective, this is damn impressive. Vargas isn't some kind of iron-chinned beast, but he's a tough, tough guy who'll usually take you a good few rounds unless you're Nonito Donaire(who stopped him in three). Giving Roman Gonzalez a scare and taking Segura 7 rounds before being pulled out, he was expected to give the comebacking Concepcion at least a decent encounter.

I take it most of you know this was the Panamanian's first fight since his defeat in a shoe-in for FOTY against Hernan Marquez, where the fact that he's too right-hand-reliant was to his detriment in the long run and he was stopped in the 11th of a classic. At 25 he still has plenty of time to refine himself and, while just over a minute isn't really a great indicator, he seem to go some way towards doing that.

He seemed to actually be effectively using his left hand, jabbing, and uppercutting to both the head and body. What was impressive about this is that he actually appeared to be implementing some damage with his lead hand, rather than merely using it as a device to cloak his big right hand with as he used to. Hooking off his jab too, it seemed as though Chango hadn't anticipated a Concepcion who was a little bit more well-rounded.

That said, it's a worrying possibility that the way he ended was with his old method of fighting, knowing Luis he'll probably see that as solid reasoning to revert back to that full time. Hopefully he'll continue fighting a decent level of opposition, going straight back in with a fighter like Vargas after such a demoralizing defeat is admirable.

Anyone else impressed? How do you think Luis(who's a bone fide G by the way) should continue to build?

As always, your thoughts would be very much appreciated by myself.

I really like Concepcion. Big flaws of course, but his power, heart and bravado is enough to make me a fan. He has the potential to make some truly thrilling match ups if they throw him in with the best of the division. He's got a fair chance against anyone with his speed and heavy hands.

In regards to the Vargas KO, it was excellent, and the backflip to finish it was very 'G'. However, do you think the weight issues Vargas suffered prior to the fight could have contributed to his hasty downfall? I heard he had a lot of problems making the limit, even draining himself in an attempt to get there in time, and of course that could have contributed to his poor showing of punch resistance. I'm not trying to take anything away from Luis Concepcion, I just wonder whether the weight played it's role.

I can't wait for the Concepcion/Marquez rematch. It will undoubtedly be another quality fight. Though I can only really see one outcome, a Marquez decision win. I think he boxes a lot better than Concepcion, there fight was very one sided throughout the mid rounds as Marquez dominated, and we haven't seen the changes Concepcion may have made to combat what Marquez brings to the table. That said, Luis could come into the rematch and outbox Marquez, but we've never seen him show he has the capacity to do that, and I think the extra dimension will allow Marquez to succeed again. I hope I'm wrong like, because I would love Concepcion to regain his title.

Good finish. I'll be honest I have only seen Concepion in the Marquez fight that is enough to make a fan of me. By the way he looks like a smaller version of Pauly D.

Could've been, didn't hear of it if I'm honest what with me being away and all that, if that is the case it's rather unfortunate, and may detract somewhat how good this showing was.

Even still, nice to see him make a few adjustments here and there, didn't seem quite as predictable here, which he always did, even when blowing guys out in a round. Nice to see that he actually has a left hand, he has all the neon things, speed, power and the likes, just has to add some more substance to it all.

Not sure, I'll have to knuckle down and watch more of both, and not just the fight. Is the rematch up next? I'd rather they each had a fight in the interim if I'm honest, to get a better idea as to the extent Concepcion has rectified some of his more obvious flaws.

The rematch is on for October apparently. I would have liked to see a bit more of Concepcion before it happened too, but I guess he really really wants this rematch, and who can blame him?

He's a wild bomber; what's not to like.

This was savage. As you say 'pab, Vargas is usually a tough cookie.
