Luis Esteban Nery 12-12-1994 is a 5'5 Bantamweight with a record of 23-0 17 KO's. He's born in and fighting out of Tijuana, Baja California, Mexico. Even though I'm pretty sure he's not nicknamed after one of my favorite bands, he sure as hell fights like they're an inspiration, but being named panther is badass enough. He's a vicious hybrid of pressure fighter and swarmer, who can if he wants box at range, but usually chooses not to. He has impressive footwork for someone with basically no amateur experience, he had less than 10 fights, he turned pro at the tender age of 16, and thankfully hasn't been pushed too quickly, and allowed to learn on the job. He's of Afro-Mexican descent, and looks almost like a Mini Mexican Miguel Cotto, he has thudding power, and like Miguel can get a little hook happy on occasion, in fact that's his bread and butter, but that's not to say he's reckless or one dimensional, he uses angles well, can get in and out of range very effectively and can box off the backfoot, but he prefers to come in behind a jab and unload a fuselage of hooks on cornered opponents, who usually wilt from accumulation after about 4 rounds leading to a TKO finish. Already he's racked up a decent resume, stopped the late David Sanchez in 4, decent Filipino journeyman Richie Mepranum in 2, Cuadras and Estrada only got him out in 8 and 9. Recently he ran into a spot of bother against another good Filipino in Raymond Tabugon, who he had reeling and ready to go in the first, but Nery got clipped with a short right hook, which put him on his ass momentarily, he wasn't hurt thankfully, hopefully he'll learn from that mistake and be a little more cautious when going for the kill in the future. Can he make it to he top of the Bantamweight Division? Maybe, after all, its seen better days, but he's facing a test he better be on the top of his game for, in undefeated but aging Japanese icon Shinsuke Yamanaka later this year. his defense is really lacking. he keeps his guard too low, when he uses a guard at all, and his chin is rarely tucked. but, his boxing experience is less than an average golden gloves state champ, so his potential is huge.

I have the same feeling with this match that I had before Uchiyama-Corrales and Moreno-Ceja. Nery can punch, probably harder than Moreno and Solis, that's not a good thing for Shinsuke.
All Hail The New King!!!! The God Of Left had a great a career, but Pantera unleashed All Hell's Wrath and proved to be just too much for him.
