Nobody has ever claimed that Campillo is a big puncher. That was not the point. The point was that Garcia,as talented as he is,is far too green and inexperienced to fight a such a dangerous fighter like Campillo.Garcia would have earned peanuts to fight Campillo on Spanish soil.Very high risk, very little reward!

Do you really think that a fighter who is able to dethrone a decent top fighter like Garay on his home turf in Argentine isnt able to beat a green rookie with almost no experience in the paid ranks.
Garcia has talent, but he didnt have a very long amateur career like his compatriot Gamboa or some other Cubans.
He is a greenhorn, and should have never been matched withs someone like Campillo in the first place anyway!
Garica's matchmaker obviously has no clue about good matchmaking, and his promoter doesnt seem to be the most knowledgeable one either.
Whom would he have fought in his 7th pro fight? Dawson? Erdei?
Damn! Get real! Garcia is an 21 year young Cuban with just 5 fights at the pros!

I agree 100% with you Odo. However now that Campillo has a world championship belt on his waist, the fight with Campillo is no longer feasible. This is a pitty cause the balance risk-reward has changed dramatically for Garcia after yesterdays result. Now would the fight with the Spaniard make much more sense ...

This doesn't change my opinion at all... It only proves that once again the WBA had a shitty champ...

Garay's no chump. He convincingly beat Braehmer, and he arguably beat Erdei twice.

I do think that a big part of it was that Garay had been training for an orthodox fighter, then the last-minute replacement was a southpaw. I have no idea if there's a rematch clause, but I wouldn't be surprised, and I wouldn't be surprised if Garay won a rematch.

Great call, irresponsible matchmaking. But I bet even this poster wouldn't have predicted that 2 1/2 years later, Garcia would be no more ready for Campillo than he was at the time.
