Also called the "Pint-Sized Technician" by one journalist, the Puerto Rican is only five years into his professional campaign and has already clawed his way up the rankings to become top 5 or better in his country's fairly stacked featherweight division. He is up there with more experienced contenders and former titlists in Jayson Velez, WV2, Jonathan Oquendo, Gammy Rodriguez, Jesus M. Rojas and Luis Orlando Del Valle, over whom Rosa scored a unanimous decision one year ago before taking off the entire 2nd half of 2014. As of that layoff, Rosa was coming off career-best results over LODV and the always dangerous & exciting Jorge Diaz, but was sitting on a mere 38% stoppage rate which sort of undermined his given moniker of "KO King". Recently, however, the compact, strong, and offensive-minded Nutmeg Stater is on a perfect 3-0 (3) streak in 2015, slowly but surely bolstering his statistical argument for keeping the ring name by raising the # of his victories by KO to half, at least. He is too small to make any noise above feather, and the division may be too deep for him to crack the international top 15 or become the #1 domestically, but he's one to watch...and fun to watch, given that he usually does go for the KO whether he gets it or not. Luis Rosa vs. Noel Echevarria, from this past January (it was on SNY's Broadway Boxing series, recorded on my DVR, and I noticed it wasn't on YouTube... so - :cheers You're welcome!) http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h8ZH-Ehc1A8 Luis Rosa vs. Jorge Diaz: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=DzmYBp69xO4 Luis Rosa vs. Jonathan Perez: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RjPnMYOIcSU
IB, that was a gift decision he received over Luis Del Valle. BTW, how does one call themselves a ''KO King'' with a measly 47.62% knockout ratio? atsch
Rosa isn't the most skilled boxer, but I must say, he's an incredibly fun fighter to watch. I'll give him that.
Nah - I had it 96-92 Rosa, giving him the 1st-4th, 6th, 8th, and 10th with the 5th a 10-8 for Del Valle with the knockdown, the 7th 9-9 (10-9 Rosa before the point deduction) and the 9th close to Del Valle. Hey, up from 38% just a few months ago. :yep I like to imagine someone pulled him aside to whisper in his ear, "Look man, this is getting embarrassing - you have to either score a few blowouts or get some new trunks made..."
 I'm rescoring the fight sometime next week! Fan friendly fight from what I remember. :yep They'll probably feed him a few more stiffs before stepping him up in competition again. He needs to tighten up his defense in order to compete with the elite in the featherweight division.
On the world scene, yeah, really hard to see him compete with some of the elites. He could angle his way to a belt if he catches the right paper titlist at the right time, however. DiBella seems confident he'll end up holding one someday, FWIW. :conf Domestically, he probably can become #2 in PR. I don't see him ever getting on Jayson Velez's level, though. Even though I had Gradovich beating Velez 117-111, that was a close battle.
Here's my scorecard : Round 1. 10-9 LODV (Close Round) Round 2. 10-9 LR (Clear Round) Round 3. 10-9 LR (Close Round) Round 4. 10-9 LR (Clear Round) Round 5. 10-8 LODV (Extra point for the knockdown) (Clear Round) Round 6. 10-9 LR (Close Round) Round 7. 9-9 (Point deduction against LR) Round 8. 10-9 LODV (Close Round) Round 9. 10-9 LODV (Clear Round) Round 10. 10-9 LODV (Close Round) 95-93 in favor of LODV. :deal Anyone else want to post their scorecard? :!: The fight can be found on youtube.
I'll admit, the fight was closer than I initially thought, but the judges scorecards were a bit too wide for my taste. LODV had to knock him out to get a draw. :verysad
