Sorry, for the triple post. I was undecided on which matchup to post (out of the pending three) and decided on the Chavez -vs- Rodriguez one. For some reason all three of 'em uploaded instead of just this one, I thought I'd hit the go-back button.:huh
Rodriguez was able to not just stave off the attacks by middleweight hardmen Bennie Briscoe and Rubin Carter, but counter them efficiently as well. Though more basic and one dimensional than the smaller Chavez, they were stronger, rougher and even more durable. Even if Chavez brought some kind of experience and trickery to the table, I doubt it would be superior to that of George Benton or especially Emile Griffith, two craftsmen Rodriguez beat (the latter, he went tool n' nail with). Rodriguez would probably handle Chavez with not too many problems.
Rodriguez by u dec ,he has a very impressive resume ,and had the misfortune to be Griffiths contemporary.
Chavez peaked as much as 17lbs lighter.... A welterweight Chavez was a shadow of the fighter he once was and do well to last 15 rounds with Rodriguez.
