Román is smothering his man with pressure and body shots, keeping Escandón pinned on the ropes. Escandón's face now a bloody mess from short range hooks! Román clowning him, doing a fake Drunken Master walk in reverse across the ring in slow motion after Escandón lands a shot. Ref warns them both to watch the heads inside. Escandón is coming forward, jabbing his way in, and holding. Román working the body.

Round 3

Román is burrowing in and swinging big pendulous shots at the body after bracing himself against Escandón. Román is using a Philly shell almost mockingly to slip punches when Escandón headhunts. Escandón does better when working the body himself - but he's losing that battle by a wide margin as well. Román with a series of unanswered hooks, forcing Escandón to hold on while sagging by the ropes. Escandón wiping at his nose with his glove. Román tagging him up with hooks and downward-clobbering rights against the side of the skull, backing him into the ropes. Big uppercut by Román, scored in triplicate. Escandón ends the round bravely moving forward behing his jab and throwing his own body shots. His face is a mess.

Well, I'm no Nostradamus, but the finish feels pretty close.

 

Riaño has it 30-27 for Micky Roman.

 

Román finally puts Escandón down in the fourth, but the ref rules it a slip. Crowd isn't happy. Moments later Escandón does a chicken dance, so this one's about to become academic.

Knockdown just as the 5th round is drawing to a close, and in comes the white towel saving Escandón.
