Chisora is and always has been somewhere between journeyman and gatekeeper.

The guy you're lauding got beat by Agit Kabayal. And he didn't look exactly sturdy his last time out.

For some reason guys like Chisora on the Brit circuit it's all 'well he gave it a good go, what a warrior.' If he did exactly what Ortiz did tonight against the exact same opponent it would be treated as 'our Derrick still has the stuff.'

Also, this: I'm the longest-running Usyk fanboy on the site probably, and I would lose all respect for the Cat in an instant were he to kick off his 2022 by cherry-picking Ortíz - mandatory defense or not - and swerving a Fury unification or Joshua rematch in the process. That'd be the ultimate "I've made it, now watch me turn into a diva" move.

Now, if circumstances beyond his control mean the Fury or Joshua cans get kicked down the road a ways, that's one thing. Meeting his IBF mandatory obligations vs. Ortíz in a stay-busy tuneup would be fine. I meant if Fury and/or Joshua were willing and available and he was like "nah, I'm going with this old Cuban fart" - that would suck.

I don't think he will, but we have seen boxers get a taste of success and become insufferable dicks before.

Doesn't change that Chisora has done far more in his career than Ortiz has.

If Chisora is somewhere between journeyman and gatekeeper then Ortiz isn't even a gatekeeper - his resume isn't close to Chisora's.

Like him or not, Chisora's always been a tough fight for anyone and he's always had the balls to take on whoever is offered to him... Ortiz on the other hand has ducked plenty to save face.

Chisora now would walk straight through Ortiz and prime for prime I'd fancy the much more proven fighter too and that's Del.

You don't get to choose mandatories, though, and he probably wants to be the first male champion to be undisputed in two divisions in the four belt era. He won't vacate, and unless Fury is willing to take a paycut to pay step aside money to a guy we all know Usyk will beat, the fight will have to happen.

That's why I did include the caveat that if boxing politics force it on him, no worries. If he ducks a viable Fury or Joshua II match-up (not that I'd consider it a duck in terms of him being scared of them, but more like mind games maybe? Or wanting to sweeten the pot by dominating somebody well-known on American television before signing for either of those?) and hides behind excuses like "what do you want? :D I'm facing my IBF number one contender :p" however, then he'd be another soul taken by the dark side.

One thing about Ortiz though, he was besting Wilder twice before being relieved of his senses. He's been closer to the big prize than Del.

Rubbish, you're showing your UK bias like most UK posters do on here. Ortiz murders Chisora in his prime. Chisora would walk into Ortiz's counters all night long until he'd end up out of the ring. Chisora has 12 losses to his name which includes getting his head jabbed off by Pulev and given the run around by Kabayel.

Now, yeah Chisora probably wins but so what? Ortiz is shot to bits and aint getting any younger.

Actually this fight was ironically an inversion of both his Wilder losses. Martin was in fact more comfortably up than Ortíz should've been against Wilder. Pays to pack a punch. :deal:

    Who you beat matters.
    Who you lose to matters.
How well you do in defeat matters.

Ortiz resume is mostly bums - his best win is a gatekeeper and he lost to a champion famous for ducking anyone decent.
Chisora has fought a bunch of current/future HOF fighters (Vitali, Usyk, Fury) among other respectable fighters (Haye etc) and went 50/50 with legit contenders in Whyte and Parker.

Ortiz is one of the most ridiculously overhyped fighters of the past decade.

He's achieved next to nothing - his best win is a gatekeeper who barely turned up.

Chisora ain't that special, but nobody hypes him like Ortiz gets
