Martin was well ahead but isn't a show closer or skilled enough to extinguish Ortiz's threat. Or smart enough to take knee when the guy is landing several bombs for free. Rather look out to the stalls and see who is giving him a wave.

I think Martin was pretty much out of it after the first shot shook him up.

Fury, Usyk, Joshua, Wilder ? Joyce, Whyte, Hunter ? (the Hunter that beat Povetkin schools Ortiz but he's been slacking lately so it's closer) Parker, Ruiz (okay resume but terrible last performance, he could be top 10 if he gets his **** together)

Spot 10 goes for any of the up and coming guys that would easily batter Ortiz like Hrgovic or Gassiev. Chisora isn't top 10 but also battrrs Ortiz.

Martin is not top 15. He's trash.

Now that everyone has spewed their British bias nonsense about the journeyman Chisora ...

    Here are the facts.

Luis Ortiz is rated in the top 10 by EVERY sanctioning body (WBC, WBA, IBF and WBO) and he's been rated in the Ring top 10 continously now approaching four years.

After tonight, he will only move up.

Tonight, Luis Ortiz just scored a brutal KO against the IBF #2 contender (the top spot was vacant) ... in a title eliminator.

Luis Ortiz is now in position to fight the winner of Joshua-Usyk II by the end of 2022, which will be two years since the last IBF mandatory.

As for the Martin fight, Charles Martin landed a power shot with full force in the first round when both men were measuring each other. Shots like that behind the ear usually result in a KO win, especially early when both guys are still dry. But Ortiz got RIGHT UP.

Clearly, the punch had lingering effects, though, over the next couple rounds. Ortiz didn't always seem to have control of his balance, but that's what equilibrium shots like that do to you.

Still, Ortiz stepped up the pace and brutally pummelled Martin, leaving him at one point standing there carrying on a conversation with an invisible person ... Martin was totally out of it.

No one has done that to Charles Martin, not even Joshua. Hell, Joshua's knockdowns over Martin in their fight six years ago were of the flash variety, and, when Martin stood up clear headed at nine and the ref waived that fight off giving Joshua his first belt.

    Ortiz, unlike Joshua, brutalized him.

I'll reserve comment on the state of Ortiz's legs until his next fight, which may be for THREE of the four belts.

But I think a lot of people didn't give that punch behind the ear Martin landed in round one enough credit for how Ortiz's legs were reacting. Instead, they "lazily" fell back on the shopworn "he's old" garbage.

If Ortiz lands on Usyk or Joshua like he hit Martin, they'll be talking to themselves, too.

    Anyway, congratulations Luis!

A shot at three titles awaits you in the new year.

Ortiz is old and finished that's a no Brainer....But was checking a Top 10 Ring Magazine heres there list interesting..
    1...Fury
    2....Usyk
    3....Joshua
    4....Wilder
    5...Whyte
    6....Ruiz
    7....Ortiz
    8....Joyce
    9....Hrgovic
    10....Sanchez

Plenty there I disagree with but like I said apart from the Top 3 or 4 the rest are ordinary.

Disappointing Martin didn't go on to win after such a bright start. But fair play to Ortiz, hell of a punch to wobble Martin and after that, pounced on him and finished him in a clinical and devastating way.

Ortiz is good but Wilder is not universally liked so he gets discredited a lot. I don’t think anybody outside of the top 4 (AJ, Usyk, Fury, Wilder) can beat him. Parker is not aggressive enough, Andy Ruiz and Dillian Whyte will get KO’d off of a counter. I would love to see Ortiz vs Chisora, Helenius or Parker next.

    DAZN Top 10 are
    1...Fury
    2....Usyk
    3....Joshua
    4....Wilder
    5....Whyte
    6....Ruiz
    7....Parker
    8....Ortiz
    9....Hunter
    10...Joyce
Again apart from the Top 3 or 4 the rest are pretty average....But the Old finished Ortiz is in most of the Top 10s say's a lot about the quality of Heavyweights at the moment when a finished Old Man can make Top 10 on most of the Top Heavyweights list.

Chisora ever been in a title fight? Had the champion reeling and one punch away from claiming that belt?

    No, he hasn’t.

He’s been a glorified punching bag for a lot of guys and made probably more money than any journeyman/gatekeeper every because he’s held up to Brits as being some kind of lovable loser type. He’s made a nice career of being on the wrong side of some hidings.

And Ortiz just won an eliminator for a third title shot. Even if he’d done nothing else, that’s more than Chisora.

You can opine that he would beat Ortiz but if he did it would be by far the greatest win in his career. Most likely he’d give it a good go then get punched out as usual.

Ortiz isn’t the one who has done the avoiding. It’s the Dillian Whytes who have avoided him — I’ve been hearing for years how Ortiz is an old man and not that much but when Whyte was offered an eliminator against him Dillian hid under his bed.

EDIT: I correct myself and apologize to Dereck for my mistake — he has fought for a title (vs. Vitale), but it was so long ago I didn’t remember it and, frankly, it wasn’t memorable as he was given a round on the scorecards for showing up but wasn’t remotely competitive.

Ortiz needs to show a helluva lot more than a comeback win over a journeyman to be in line for a title shot.
