Headlining the PBC on Fox heavyweight New Year's day PPV. Weigh in here in six hours: This content is protected
Not buying it. The wife and I were supposed to go to a Bach concert tonight but it got canceled. So we'll be home watching Andy Grifitth Show and Marcus Welby re-runs. We own the extended cut DVD'S for both shows.
This is going to be a chess match and probably a snooze. Martin will try to go to the body against a slow Ortiz so he can snatch some of the later rounds when Ortiz tires. Size-wise there's not much in it which favours Ortiz heavily. It's not like against Wilder where Ortiz was always in the firing line every round in both fights. I think the pace of this fight will be slow, this helps Martin because he is patient fighter who can dig in those body shots and jabs while not taking relentless combinations in exchanges from Ortiz. I definitely don't rule out a Martin decision though, PBC definitely prefer a Charles Martin win to an Ortiz win, so the cards could be really biased. That said, I feel like Ortiz will dominate so much that they can't rob him. 9-3 Ortiz is my prediction.
$40 is around the same as paying for a £25 top tier British PPV. I know the USA is more expensive, and Americans have more money but..really?
Voted draw. Not because I think it will be, but because this could honestly go either way. Neither fighter has ever proven themselves to be beyond gatekeeper level. Prime for prime, Ortiz would probably be winning this more often than not IMHO, but it would never have been a sure thing. But Ortiz age is a real question mark - how much has he declined as a result and what condition is Martin in? Neither have exactly been active, how rusty are they and who's most effected by this? Should be interesting if nothing else.
Not really any star power here. That said, sometimes cards like this really deliver for entertainment, you aren't counting on 1 fight alone to get your money's worth.
Martin by stoppage, I say this with very little enthusiasm. Ortiz has to turn old one of these days and all of this inactivity can't be good for him (not good for Martin either but he's still a spry "35" compared to Ortiz' age.....whatever that advanced number is). I should probably wait for the weigh in results to make predictions though.
