Recent rumors of a fall showdown versus unbeaten heavyweight titlist Deontay Wilder. Highly respected boxing journalist Keith Idec recently reported on *******.com the news of a potential clash between the two, with sources indicating that all signs were pointing to a November 4 showdown at Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York.

Ortiz says: "It was news to Ortiz' ears—at least until talking to his own team and learning that, for now, it's just more of the same talk."

"Opponents using Luis' name as leverage for another fight is nothing new," notes Herman Caicedo, Ortiz' head trainer. "Look, we commend Deontay—or at least whoever is speaking on his behalf—for appearing to be serious about fighting Luis. I know that he's not very big on fighting (Bermane) Stiverne again, likely because no TV network wants the fight.

"But until his team can figure out a way for his next fight to not be his mandatory challenge, we're just going to continue with business as usual. We get our hopes up way too often, and then find out (Ortiz) is just being used as leverage without any real interest from those mentioning his name."

"If they told me the fight was tomorrow, I'm on a plane today to fly wherever the fight is taking place," insists the 38-year old southpaw from Miami by way of Cuba, whom hasn't fought since 7th round stoppage of David Allen last December. "But for my business, everything runs through the team I trust, beginning with my manager Jay Jimenez who I talk to constantly. We're not seeing anything (so far) where he can step around Bermane Stiverne to fight me or anyone else.

"I get where Stiverne is coming from because I'm going through the same crap with (unbeaten, unified titlist) Anthony Joshua. I've been his mandatory challenger (through the WBA) forever, but the WBA doesn't want to act until Wladimir Klitschko (whom Joshua stopped in 11 rounds this past April) decides what he wants to do with the rest of his career. That's the fight I've been waiting for—that or the WBA title that Joshua is holding ransom through all of this."

"We've wasted a lot of training camps believing a big fight was going to happen, only to find out it's either a much smaller fight or none at all," laments Ortiz. "I'm in the gym, regardless. I'm always in shape and ready to go.

Jesus...Wilder's team are truly disgusting. Does anyone remember when prior to actually signing the Povetkin fight, Hauser reported from sources within the sanctioning bodies, Povetkin's team, and others that Haymon was trying to first pay off Povetkin from fighting Wilder, then set up a Martin vs Wilder matchup instead, and finally having to agree with the match after the sanctioning body threatened to strip Wilder if they didn't follow through with the fight?

This is of course all the while, in public, they were talking about how much they wanted to face Povetkin. Hahaha there's no shame in that team.

No surprise. This is another scam. Call out rated fighters and then fight stiffs. That's Wilder's MO since he was handed the WBC title.

Before, he just fought stiffs, now he makes a show of wanting to fight decent fighters before going to the local taxi stand for his next opponent.

If this is true man that must suck, but a previous drug cheat, from Cuba will not get much sympathy unfortunately. Klitschko has a rematch clause with AJ so he's not holding the belt ransom is he? The heavyweight division needs more Dave Allen's - with talent

It seems that there is some truth to the fight attempting to be made because Stiverne is speaking on it and vowing to challenge any step aside money. He talks as if the offer has been already been presented to him.

Hw boxing fans are like abused spouses who keep believing the spouse will get better when they don't. The title holders or contenders SAY they will fight someone top notch. And we believe the boxer, because are desperate to see great or even good hw fights and we never get to see them. But boxers like Wilder always talk about great fights and never come through. We should just assume they are full of **** until they are actually throwing punches at each other in the ring.

I wouldn't generalize like this, some of the other guys, i.e. Joshua and Wlad, ARE fighting each other.

When it comes to faking wanting to fight decent comp and fighting stiffs, Wilder is truly in a class by himself. He is an ATG bum-buster, the most persistent and enduring can-crusher I've seen in 35 years of following HW boxing!

Wlad and Joshua, yes, absolutely. But there IS a HUGE problem with contenders not fighting contenders. Washington Miller is arguably the best hw contender fight of the year. That's just atrocious. Why isn't Whyte facing Jennings, Wach facing Ustinov, Takam facing Brazaele? The list goes on and on, it's hard to tell where anyone outside the top 8 stand just because no one in the top 9 to 40 ever face each other.

I agree with this. However, my point is that Wilder's nearly decade-long fraudulent career is in a league by itself when it comes to avoiding legitimate challenges.

All boxers do but Wilder other than talking **** on social media hasn't done anything toward that goal...

If you are going to talk **** all the time either back it up or be mocked as Wilder is...
