It's true enough that he wasted a lot of time and clearly has little time left. But he really does look pretty good. Jennings may not be amazing, but he's a solid opponent. He bested Szpilka almost as well as Wilder, and held his own against Wladimir. And Ortiz really trounced Jennings. How can you not be excited to see what Ortiz could do?
I never saw this fight coming together for some reason. Never thought it would be over Ortiz pulling a shameful duck though.
Ustinov fought absolutely noone after he got K.o`d with a jab by Pulev. Theres no money in this fight and its absolutely pointless, noone is ducking Ustinov, hes useless bum.
He took 5000 jabs from Pulev in that fight and decided he had enough. He is also 25 pounds lighter now. There is a reason why Fury and now Ortiz are ducking this man deal:deal
The WBA tournament would have been as follows: Chagaev/Browne winner fights Oquendo (who would have fought Chagaev as a mandatory autumn 2015, so he kept this right). Ortiz /Ustinov winner fights Fury/Wlad winner. And then the winners collide. Ortiz is extremely stupid, if he really pulled out, because this would have been a last step before the REAL HW champ (either Fury or Wlad). He could have fought one of them early next year. I just don't understand. Maybe Haymon is behind this with a promise of a fight against Wilder?
Ortiz just has the stink of a loser about him. The years of can crushing, inactivity, steroids... now, at 37, he finally has some momentum, and this is what happens. I think he is afraid of Ustinov. Ustinov is big, he can hit, and other than the Pulev fight, he has shown a good chin. He is a different kind of challenge, as he is not there to be whacked out.
Not a good look for an old fighter... Might be his final chance & on a big stage to boot. Something weird about this... HBO hates Cubans we all know that.... hmmm (intetesting)
