Definitely. Far more interesting than anything Whyte has to offer.

For me, he's a wasted talent, as his career could've been a lot better. Financially and Legacy wise.
I'm aware he wasn't a fighter people willingly took on, I'm just saying what could've been.

Lets say he fought Povetkin, Pulev and Parker before 2017, that's 3 good wins and fights he'd have been at least 50-50 in, if not favourite.

Then, if he beat Pulev, he'd have been AJs Mando for both belts, meaning that's a huge fight for him.

Then, after he lost, he could've kept on paying the WBC sanctioning fees, and got the Wilder fight, earlier too, as he popped dirty for the original fight in late 2017. So he gets another title shot, and losses.
He's offered the Whyte fight, which he could've took, and bang another huge payday and big win (if he won). Assuming he did, he gets the Wilder rematch, makes another couple million, and retires a rich old old man.

Litterally, at least half of this could've happened, but it didn't. So yeah, he is a "what could've been" but he still accomplished a lot more than most.

And even in an actual world scenario he could've had the Whyte and AJ fights and made Millions.

Ortiz is incredibly overrated and his only notable win is against Jennings 5 years ago. Without a doubt Ortiz has the weakest resume out of anyone in the top 10 for either Boxrec or Ring magazine.

I think he either was a mandatory for Joshua or was on the verge of being one. I don’t remember the situation other than that the Ustinov eliminator didn’t happen and Hearn did a mediocre job representing Ortiz.

    @fenoc1 @Inglis_1

My thread has hurt your precious feelings, I have offended the Cuban god of talent for you both, by questioning his talent and success.

It's not my fault Ortiz is not smart enough to guide his own career... I mean turning down 6 million to fight AJ... you gotta be kidding me....

Ruiz is a real man, he stepped up.

Whyte turned down Pulev of all people hahaha for an IBF mandatory spot. Says it all about that ducker really.

Hughie is a real man, he stepped up to go to Bulgaria unlike Whyte and Miller.

Ortiz's best win is Bryant Jennings, his second best is either Malik ''Scuba'' Scott or a 400 y/0 way past it Tony Thompson and he's only fought one puncher his entire career and got stopped x 2 by them. Granted he is a favourable stylistic match up for them given his short reach, cement feet, his inability to avoid a right hand even if his life depended on it, and obviously him being older than your great-grandfather's first pair of shoes.

None of those guys I mentioned could demolish a sandcastle with a sledgehammer and let's not forget that in his previous fight prior to the Bootleg Dorticos rematch Ortiz was being lit up all night (no exaggeration) by right hands from a 257lb Christina Hammer who he laboured to a very competitive UD win over, that's an even worse version of Hammer than the one Povetkin pretty much schooled, Wach savagely KO'd and The Gypsy King stopped.

Here's footage of a prime Ortiz getting, you guessed it, lit up with an endless stream of rights by Alexander Pov who literally couldn't miss with the right after it dawned on him that Ortiz's massive melon is a magnet for them. Pov stopped Ortiz on the outscored rule and even dropped him which the ref chose not to count for some reason.

Fast forward to today and here we have Ortiz getting lit up like an old battered Cuban Christmas tree with right after right by Christina Hammer. Notice how Hammer doesn't need 7 rounds to time Ortiz with a flush right and isn't mortally afraid of getting clipped by the wind of his left cross.

And in Ortiz's fight prior to that he laboured to get Travis ''Tomato Can'' Kauffman out of there in 10, that's the same Kauffman who in his previous fight was saved by the bell in round 1 from a KO loss to a 14-2-2 nobody.

yeah...that sounds good and all I think Ortiz-Fury-Ortiz is harder than what you’ve listed above.

Should have turned over to the pro circuit before his 40th birthday. Should have insisted his team push for the bigger fights when LL and both Klits were fighting. Turned down the Joshua fight (WTAF!), let Wilder off the hook in the first fight, got cocky and let Wilder set him up with like three jabs before being popped with the right.

Oh and he got popped for PED's twice, wasting yet more time well into his 40's. Best performances against Jennings and Scuba Scott even though he had a decent amateur career and plenty of momentum and opportunity at various points in his career.

Yeah fully rate Hughie actually... **** fighter.. but for a young lad he steps up and fights.

Pulev ain't worth Whytes time for chump change, Whyte out here making big boy money.

Pulev can stay on his gyro

Well the forum has spoken, and we've deemed Ortiz NOT WORTHY by resume.

He will be forgotten in the sands of time. Hell, he probably has sand in his veins that old mofo

I wouldn't say a waste. He looked to have the skills to do more as a pro. But it looks like doing 'ok' and getting KO'd by DW is his biggest feat. But this is the HW division of today. Virtually ALL HW's have terrible/thin resumes now.
