Ortiz's career is over, and his biggest mistake was signing with Al Haymon, who screwed him over badly. The Cuban was the mandatory challenger of Joshua, and he should have never stepped aside. Had Ortiz not signed to fight Wilder, Joshua should have been stripped of his WBA title (well, that might be naive to think that, since these sanctioning bodies usually don't give a **** about their own rules, but let's assume that is the case) and Ortiz could have a shot at the WBA title. Now he won't get a shot at the title, because he listened to his "advisor", Al Haymon who told him to take the fight against Wilder and the Cuban predictably got the Povetkin treatment. Now he will get suspended, that means neither Wilder nor Joshua will have to fight him and these two current champions can fight each other next year. Ortiz got screwed, his only fault is that he is a dangerous opponent and he doesn't bring money to the table. If he was a draw, it wouldn't matter that he used PEDs, he would get a retroactive TUE, just like Mayweather did when he doped. Boxing is still corrupt as ****.
Well for sure this match never made any sense cause as a promoter who'd only just signed Ortiz you'd want a few pay days out of him and throwing both his HW champs together never made much sense either. Buffet King was mandatory for some strange reason but the fans and networks hated it so trying to be logical why would Wilders team who after 38 fights against arefully matched opponents why would they risk Losing the huge pay day against AJ against the divisions so called bogey man? Wilder also had a genuine offer from Hearn to fight Whyte at a career high pay day that would f smashed what he'd of got from Ortiz with less risk of losing and yet they picked the bogey man. Don't make sense, granted nobody forced Ortiz to test positive but please let's not get caught up in Wilders BS about not fighting anyone who tests positive cause when it suits him he'll fight Buffet King who not long ago tested positive and was allowed by the WBC to pay a fine lol, didn't Arreola test for somethin?
Another casualty of boxing's A side, over privileged/protected diva's and their criminal syndicate that colludes and corrupts at every turn to keep them relevant and at the top. Poster's predicted this! I just wish I could remember who they were so I could give them credit.
He took the Wilder fight believing that the sooner he got the title shot the better, and that he could still get the fight with AJ eventually, but for 3 titles instead of 2. Either Ortiz himself ****ed it up or his doctor dropped the ball, but It wasn't Haymon's fault.
I said it was strange weeks ago that Ortiz at his advanced age would risk his multi million dollar payday with cash cow Joshua for a low reward risk in wilder. Now he gets nothing. He played himself. Never do deals with the devil
I was just reported by a doctor in Florida that the prescription medicine Ortiz was taking was for his blood pressure. He said it was a puzzle that the fight should be stopped for that, it isn't a PED! Ortiz was framed, like Povetkin was framed. Funny, out of all the winos from the alley Wilder has fought, not one has ever tested positive for anything (perhaps wine?) Wilder is so happy he is out of this fight, but perhaps not.....................whatever, Joshua had better be careful, they might frame him, although Wilder will never fight Joshua, Wilder is afraid as hell. Wilder refused to fight Vlad several times! An old Vlad...............Vlad would have knocked him out!!!!!!!
Well for instance I predicted this in the Deontay Wilder-Luis Ortiz in Works thread... And some others did as well.
Ortiz might have believed that... Because Haymon talked him into it. But if you are Ortiz's manager, why wouldn't you want Ortiz to fight Joshua, the cash cow instead of taking a lower reward fight against Wilder? Joshua would probably have vacated the title, because he chose to fight Pulev. The WBA already warned him in August that they would strip him. If Joshua vacated the belt, Ortiz could fight for it against a lesser opponent and become a world champion much easier than fighting Wilder. Haymon could have had two heavyweight champions... But he didn't want that for some strange reason.
While it's true the Ortiz fight didn't make obvious sense as Joshua would of been far more lucrative than Wilder, I'm sure Haymon was able to sow some doubt into Ortiz's mind about a Joshua fight. He probably suggested he would be ducked by Joshua or would only get peanuts for fighting him. But if he KO'ed Wilder and took his belt he could go into the Joshua fight with a belt and demand more money. On the face of it, that made sense for both of them, Ortiz gets a bigger payday vs Joshua once he has the WBC belt and either way Haymon get a unification fight either with Wilder or Ortiz. I assume Ortiz was very confident he'd KO Wilder what he hadn't anticipated was getting done for doping.
Had Ortiz stayed with Hearn over in the U.K he had 2 fights under him and could have stayed active over there, would have been lined up still with joshua and made more money sooner than later. Instead he gets injured /declines a rossey fight and no fights ,not one to even stay busy. Leaving golden boy too???Moving around from point a to B and making some really dumb decisions,he wasted practically his entire career....
Hearn never wanted to keep or groom Ortiz into Joshua's rival. "Keep your friends close and your enemies closer."
